REPORTS TO: Program Director
JOB SUMMARY: The Activities Coordinator promotes the well-being and satisfaction of residents by developing and implementing activities programs that enhance their quality and enjoyment of life.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and implements an innovative seven-day-a-week activity dual-level programming the engages levels of functioning. Publishes weekly/monthly calendar.
- Ensures the programming contains a balanced mixture of activities addressing cognitive, recreational, sensory, social, memory and spiritual programs. Including coordinating with outside agencies, organizations to develop programs to enhance resident experiences.
- Leads and implements one-on-one, small group and large group activities according to the programming schedule. Assures individual activities are available and supported for residents confined to, or who chose to stay in their room.
- Assists the direct care staff in keeping the residents involved in the unit socially, cognitively, and recreationally.
- Supports, encourages and directs independent activity pursuits, both individually and in small groups.
- Demonstrates knowledge about individual residents in regard to background, participation needs, physical abilities, interests, cognitive capacity and attention span capability.
- Organizes outings in the local community, coordinates transportation.
- Decorates the common areas for special events and holidays.

- Encourages and motivates residents to attend and participate in programming and activities.
- Provides information to the Program Director and Nurses regarding the residents’ participation and abilities to assist with the development of a personalized care plan.
- Keeps within budgetary guidelines and responsible for ordering, maintaining, and securing needed supplies for the department. Maintains the activity storage area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
- Assists in the production of a quality monthly newsletter and calendar and Daily Activity Calendar on a timely basis.
- Manages and promotes a vibrant Volunteer Program.
- Ensure the Activities programs meet all state, federal, and other regulations
- Performs all other duties as requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Full-time, with availability for occasional evening, weekend and holiday availability
- Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and dementia. Must be qualified by experience and training to develop programs appropriate for elders and disabled individuals.
- Training and background in recreational activities, as well as Alzheimer’s and related dementia's, preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel) with the ability to learn new applications.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the organization.
- Shows an ability to relate to and perform job functions for the elderly in a positive and efficient manner
- Shows a consistent ability to coordinate multiple tasks, demonstrates a positive attitude, and works well under pressure
- Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice and individuality of residents
