    Specialist Payroll GEODIS 1,222 reviews - Plainfield, IN The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing multi-state payroll data using Ceridian to maintain payroll records with activities including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll earnings and deductions, processing xpress check requests, verifying new hire, LOA, and termination data. Primary Duties: * Compiles/processes additional pay items received with approval from Compensation * Processes all data that comes through the payroll.ohl mailbox * Prepares computer input forms, enters data into computer files, or computes wages and deductions and posts to payroll records * Runs the prepare process, previews reports and corrects errors to ensure accuracy before payroll processes * Accurately records direct deposit, tax and paycheck routing

    • Records W-4 tax changes for existing employees to update master payroll records * Accurately processes status changes and pay increases to existing payroll records * Records data concerning transfer of employees between departments, terminations, address changes and LOA * Verifies payroll accuracy each week by balancing time keeping system to payroll system * Processes xpress checks, void checks and stop payments
    • Calculates retro pay and enters cycle data batches * Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions * Enters journal entries and balances all payroll related accounts * Provides payroll data to Accounting for balancing payroll general ledger accounts * Verifies social security number accuracy using SSN verification system * Serves as backup to Time & Attendance Manager and backup for wage garnishment processing as needed * Other duties as required and assigned Requirements: Education and Experience: * High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalency * Associates degree preferred * Minimum 2 years of experience and/or training * Experience with payroll system of record (preferably Ceridian and Kronos) * PC literate to include a command of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook Essential Skills: * Ability to write routine reports and correspondence * Excellent communication skills * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions * Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization * Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. * Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. * Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee may ccasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
