    The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

     

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The CSIS Americas Program seeks highly motivated candidates for up to five full-time internships in a dynamic and fast-paced environment for Fall 2021, starting on/about August 30, 2021.

    The program informs and produces insightful analysis and recommendations for partners in the United States and the region. The Americas Program focuses on six thematic priorities: • Regional security, particularly in the Northern Triangle, Mexico, and the impact of the Venezuelan crisis on the region; • The erosion of democratic practices and institutions; • Inequality and social inclusion in the Americas; • The emergence of significant regional powers, such as Brazil, in an increasingly multipolar world; • The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on trade and development in the region; and • The long-term impact of more frequent contestation and great-power rivalry in the Americas.

    The CSIS Americas Program also houses the Argentina-U.S. Strategic Forum and the Future of Venezuela Initiative. 

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: • Assisting with ongoing Americas Program research and projects as specified by the staff • Compiling research and data into literature reviews, summaries, backgrounders, and short publications to support the program’s research portfolio • Assisting in the preparation and execution of Americas Program virtual events • Copyediting Americas Program publications and drafting correspondence • Monitoring events in the Western Hemisphere • Disseminating news to our web following • Other administrative tasks as needed

     

    KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

    Strong candidates will be able to commit to a full-time internship (35 hours/week) from late August/early September to mid-December, and possess the following attributes:

    • Strong academic record with a demonstrated interest in Western Hemisphere affairs. Competitive applicants will be a rising senior or will have already completed a B.A. in international relations, economics, political science, history, or Latin American studies • Must have at least a 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution • Demonstrated knowledge of Latin America • Excellent analytical and writing abilities • Ability to work independently • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously • Fluency in Spanish required; proficiency in Portuguese is a plus
