    Residential Counselor Location: Silver Spring, MD Department: CSLA Type: Full Time Min. Experience: Mid Level Experienced Direct Support Professional needed to assist three men who share a house in the Forest Glen area of Silver Spring, Maryland. This house is connected with the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church through a partnership between Jubilee Association and Rosaria Communities of the Archdiocese of Washington. Working with other staff, the counselor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the home, ensuring that peoples needs are met, making sure the guys get out and have an active, fun social life, implementing the IP, communicating with families and other entities, including the parish of St. John the Evangelist. This is a fulltime, nonexempt position of 40+ hours with any hours over 40 at time-and-a-half. The core schedule is Wednesday-Friday 6-9 a.m. and evenings 3-10; and every other weekend, 7a-11p both days. During the week, this is a split shift position; you work mornings and evenings and are typically off in between, though some extra hours are budgeted for administrative tasks, doctor's appointments, meetings, etc.. Duties: Operation of the home: Facilitate systems and routines for grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, maintenance, house finances, etc., and ensure these tasks are completed. The men should be encouraged and taught to do as much of this as they are able. Assist with nutrition, dressing appropriately, personal hygiene, medical needs and follow-up, transportation, recreational and leisure activities, social or other special services needed. Monitor these areas, be aware of the individual residents' needs and abilities and give training, supervision and aid when and where necessary. Teaching: Help develop, implement and document person-centered Individual Plans (IPs). Community Contacts: Assist people to have full, active social lives and to spend time with people who are important to them. Facilitate participation in their church, activity groups, civic associations, and informal community connections. Promote contact with and serve as a liaison with families and place of employment. Teach social and personal relationship skills, e.g. making introductions, staying in touch with loved ones, remembering birthdays, making a date with friends. Assist in accessing recreational and leisure facilities in the community. Record Keeping: Keep accurate and timely records, e.g. timekeeping, IP outcomes, petty cash, medications, vehicle logs, client monies, etc. Staff Development and Team Involvement: Complete required training by due dates. Attend and participate in team and agency events, including house meetings, monthly team meetings, monthly Agency-Wide meetings, including spring and fall day retreats. Implement the Association's goals; communicate and exemplify Jubilee Association policies and values in interactions with residents and all other work activities. Requirements: 1. Minimum of a high school diploma. 2. 3+ years of experience working in community supports for people who have developmental disabilities with people with significant needs for support; ideally including experience with people who do not speak in words, and who have autism. 3. Clean driving record (2 or fewer minor moving violations in the last 3 years) and at least three years driving experience. 4. Basic-to-intermediate computer skills, excellent organizational skills and follow-through, excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
