  • Responsibilities

    Akebia is seeking a Corporate Paralegal to join its Legal Department and become a key member of the Akebia legal team.  This position is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and reports to the Vice President, Legal Corporate and Securities.

    Required Skills

    • Assist in the preparation of Board and committee materials, including minutes, resolutions and written consents
    • Maintain corporate record books for multiple entities
    • Assist with the Company’s annual shareholder meeting
    • Prepare, file and maintain all foreign qualifications and other state filings for multiple entities
    • Support financing and business development transactions, including dataroom creation and maintenance
    • Maintain files for all corporate and securities matters
    • Assist in the preparation of SEC filings, including periodic and current reports, proxy statements, Section 16 filings and confidential treatment requests in collaboration with internal and external accounting and legal teams
    • Prepare, file and maintain all state Board of Pharmacy licenses
    • Assist with the administration of the Company’s insider trading compliance program, including trainings, preclearance procedures, 10b5-1 trading plans and trading blackouts
    • Assist with certain intellectual property matters
    • Complete ad-hoc and special projects as requested/required

    Required Experience

    Basic Qualifications:

    • BA/BS Degree and 3+ years of corporate paralegal experience, with a large law firm and/or publicly traded company

    OR

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent education and 5+ years of corporate paralegal experience, with a large law firm and/or publicly traded company

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Paralegal certification from an accredited institution
    • Biotech company experience
    • Strong computer skills and document preparation (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
    • Ability to interact and communicate effectively internally with individuals from multiple departments at all levels of the organization and externally with multiple stakeholders, including outside counsel
    • Demonstrated ability to independently move projects forward and manage timing and action plans for completing department functions and preparing correspondence and other documents
    • Unquestioned discretion handling sensitive and confidential information
    • Excellent document drafting and proofreading skills, with high attention to detail
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Possess good common sense and sound judgment
    • Excellent organizational and scheduling capabilities demonstrated through ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
    • Notary license
