    MechanicLocation US-AK-KetchikanCompany Alaska Marine TruckingClass Regular Full-Time Overview Repairs and maintains industrial trucks, machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, facilities and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned:Attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position.Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.Observes mechanical devices in operation and identifies operational deficienciesAdjusts, repairs, services, and/or replaces parts in engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, and other equipmentAdjusts or repairs hydraulic systems and componentsInvestigates complaints and equipment malfunctionsReads job order and determines work procedures.Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Install new parts and reassembles device. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and makes adjustments.Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.Starts and drives repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications and to test their performance and may assist with equipment relocation. Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. Repairs electrical equipment.Performs basic computer functions by completing job work orders using an Equipment Maintenance System, recording materials used, type of work accomplished, and maintenance system codes. Maintains and instructs others on proper safety proceduresRecommends improved work methods and proceduresAttends meetings and classes or seminars to remain current with topics and techniqueComplies with all company safety policies, including use of protective equipment and Fit for Work. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Alaska Commercial Driving License with air brake endorsement preferred. Forklift Operation Certification FHWA Inspector Qualification Certification (per 49 CFR 396.19) and Brake Inspector Qualification Certification (per 49 CFR 396.25) preferred. Language Skills:Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with co-workers, supervisors and managers, to understand procedures and warning signs and or markings in the English language, to respond to inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records. Mathematical Skills:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
