    The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decisionmakers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

    A Program Coordinator (PC) with the office of the Korea Chair supports the operational and substantive goals of the Chair. The Korea Chair at CSIS is a leading policy studies program on issues related to the Korean peninsula, employing scholarship, satellite imagery analysis, data, and cutting-edge research methods to lead a policy dialogue on issues related to the Korean peninsula. The PC is responsible primarily for event management and administrative support, with opportunities for data-related projects. There is also an expectation that the PC will support full-time research staff with publications. The role has room for additional growth in program management or research support roles, after mastery of essential duties and responsibilities. The ideal candidate must have Korean language skills and be well-versed on and have an interest in issues related to the Korean peninsula. Having data analytics skills is a plus and desired.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

    Event Organization and Management (30%) ● Organizes and executes program’s public and private events and conferences, including arranging travel, hotel accommodation, room reservations, food orders, photo, AV, webcasting, and all other logistical arrangements for meetings and events as needed in close communication and coordination with full Korea Chair team. ● Coordinates with intern staff in support of program events as needed. Project Coordination (35%) ● Maintains media and embassy outreach, especially in Korean as needed. ● Provide English - Korean and Korean - English translation in support of research projects and external communications. ● Provides support and coordination for special projects as needed ● Help with data analytics projects ● Supports the program’s research agenda through research and writing projects as needed. Administrative Support (35%) ● Maintain close communication and coordination with full Korea Chair team. ● Liaise with CSIS research and administrative staff throughout the organization. ● Drafting, copyediting, and fact-checking program materials including publications, letters, mailings, and research content from interns, staff, and outside contributors with a critical perspective and strong attention to detail; provide feedback when necessary. ● Manages external communications, including maintenance of contact lists, sending event invitations, and dissemination of program publications. ● Assist with regular management, updating and creation of content for program website. ● Assist with the Chair’s expense documentation and project budgets. ● Provide additional general administrative support as needed.

    KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

    ● Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Data Analytics, or Data Visualization. ● Fluency in Korean language skills is required; ● Event planning and logistics experience; ● Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work exceptionally well in teams; ● Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write business correspondence and other relevant writing assignments in Korean and English; ● Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines; ● Strong attention to detail, professionalism, good judgment, and leadership skills; ● Ability to work closely with a range of individuals with diverse backgrounds, dispositions, and executive levels; ● Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment; ● Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

    Customer-service oriented with good verbal and written communication skills for interaction with a variety of people inside and outside of the organization.  Ability to elicit, interpret, analyze and evaluate given information relative to underwriting guidelines and lender requirements.  Excellent organization skills and detail-oriented aptitude.  General administrative abilities to include typing, filing and use of computer, calculator, copier and facsimile machines.
