Eastern * Description * Benefits * Questions Job Summary The Yardmaster
Red Line will monitor ongoing operations, which includes assuring that
transportation services are provided according to schedule and
implementing corrective action when unanticipated delays or emergencies
prevent adherence to schedule. Duties & Responsibilities * Instruct yard
personnel in the proper procedure for shifting cars through switches,
special work and the wash rack. * Ability to supervise the performance
of yard personnel for compliance with safety, traffic and operating
rules; and documenting any violations. * Observe equipment and property
for compliance with standards and making minor repairs to overcome
vehicle defects or breakdowns. * Cooperate with the repair and
maintenance shop for periodic inspections. * Ensure proper storage of
vehicles and equipment in the yard. * Maintain records of the locations
of all cars in the yard and on the road. * Familiarity with the MBTA's
Safety Plan as well as the position's outlined responsibilities. *
Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co-worker in
a professional and courteous manner. * Respond, either directly or
through others, to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7)
days per week. * Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while
building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees;
assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and
consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations,
collective bargaining agreement (if applicable) and policies of the
Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and
Anti-Retaliation policies. * Perform related duties and projects as
assigned. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications * A high school diploma or
equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to
comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs,
notices, inquiries, etc. in English. * Three (3) years of experience in
RTL operations; current full-time status as a Motorperson or Yard
Motorperson with a rating station on the Red Line. * Effective
organizational and analytical skills. * The ability to use Word and
Excel applications * The ability to pass: a Criminal Offender Record
Information (CORI) check; background screenings and the MBTA's medical
requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol
screening. * Ability to provide internal and external customers with a
courteous and professional experience. * Have excellent customer service
and conflict resolution skills. * Have a satisfactory work record for
the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting,
including overall employment, job performance, discipline and safety
records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the
posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate
from consideration for selection). * Have the ability to work any and
all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed. * Be available to
work twenty four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. * The
ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
