Job Description
To ensure that our cell analysis products deliver outstanding performance and exceed our customers’ expectations, BD Biosciences is seeking a passionate and capable Systems Validation Scientist II to contribute to the R&D team by preparing samples for flow cytometric studies.
MUST HAVES ON THE RESUME:
- Best practice experience doing antibody methods for antigen labeling (e.g., flow cytometry, western blots, ELISA, ELISPOT)
- Experience working in a lab, with basic lab skills and knowledge (pipetting, dilutions, titrations, etc.)
- Ability to purify leukocytes from mammalian-derived samples (i.e., venous blood) via different density-gradient centrifugation methods and RBC lysis protocols.
- Ability to stain cells in tubes and plates for intracellular and extracellular antigens.
Responsibilities:
The Systems Validation Scientist II will play a critical role in preparing samples for flow cytometric studies.
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
• Maintaining the health, expansion, and inventory of cell lines
• Performing cryopreservation and thawing of mammalian cells
• Purification of leukocytes from mammalian-derived samples (i.e., venous blood) via different density-gradient centrifugation methods and RBC lysis protocols.
• Staining of cells in tubes and plates for intracellular and extracellular antigens.
• Fixation and permeabilization of cells, treatment of cells in culture with various agents, maintaining documents/lot numbers of antibodies and reagents.
• Counting cells via hemocytometer and/or proprietary cell counters.
• Preparing buffers, media, and other reagents.
• Maintaining inventory of critical laboratory supplies (consumables and reagents) in the lab
• Attend meetings, as needed.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess:
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field.
• At least 1-2 years of experience working in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory environment, performing cell culture with multiple different mammalian cell lines.
• Best practice experience doing antibody methods for antigen labeling (e.g., flow cytometry, western blots, ELISA, ELISPOT)
• Experience working with primary cells derived from various mammalian species.
• Proficient with phase-contrast and brightfield microscopy.
• Excellent aseptic technique.
• Ability to troubleshoot common technical problems associated with cell sample preparation for flow cytometric studies.
• Ability to calculate basic laboratory calculations.
• Excellent attention to detail, can work quickly and accurately, organizing tasks and delivering quality with efficiency.
• Ability to read and understand Standard Operating Procedures
• Ability to interact with researchers for delivery of cells.
• Ability to maintain a clean work area.
• Knowledge of GLP/GDP guidelines.
• Experience working in a lab, with basic lab skills and knowledge (pipetting, dilutions, titrations, etc.)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
