    Job Description

    The main purpose of this position is to interview driver and non-driver associates and discuss  personnel, human relations, and work-related issues that adversely impact morale, health, and productivity.  In addition, this position will evaluate and resolve human relations and work-related  problems, meet with management to determine appropriate action, and explain and provide advice to associates about Company and governmental rules, regulations, and procedures, and the need for compliance.     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The job functions listed below represent the essential job duties and responsibilities of the above-listed  position.

    • Counsels driver and non-driver associates regarding appropriate workplace behaviors, family, or personal issues.
    • Prepares and completes the Employee Relations Issue Report for associates’ issues as they are reported, investigated and resolved.
    • Review associates’ personnel files, including progress reports, past complaints, and employment history.
    • Coordinate with Department Managers, Safety Managers and personnel to conduct interviews with associates, counsel drivers, provide feedback or conduct follow-up interviews.
    • Make the appropriate resolution to the ER issue and be able to professionally relay the outcome or disciplinary recommendations to the appropriate manager.
    • Mentor Student Driver Managers, Fleet Managers and Safety personnel with providing training to effectively and positively impact employee relations issues.
    • Provide information and referrals to associates to the Employment and Benefits Teams, HR
    • Administration, and the Employee Assistance Program as appropriate.
    • Attend training sessions as they become available for up to date trends in employee relations.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
    • Timely and regular attendance according to the scheduled shift as determined by supervisory personnel.

    • Knowledge of DOT regulations and Werner policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of FMLA, HIPPA, Military Leave and Werner benefits.
    • Skilled in operating a PC, Qualcomm, AS400 and HRMS applications
    • Strong communication and listening skills with the ability to relate to individuals at all levels.
    • Knowledge of transportation industry usually gained through practical experience.
    • Excellent decision making ability.
    • Provide a high level of customer service and the ability to treat all customers equally and fairly with a
    • High level of integrity and respect.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Management
    • or a business related field.
    • Three to five years’ experience with employee relations, employment law, and conducting investigations
    • Knowledge of and experience in State and Federal employment law preferred.
    • Experience in the transportation industry/DOT regulations preferred.
