    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY

         This is a temporary position.  The main purpose of this position is to perform preventative maintenance to diesel tractors.  Maintenance includes:  oil, coolant, rear end, transmission service and tires.  Minor repairs will be performed on all systems of the tractor.  Must have own tools and toolbox.  Due to the nature of the essential job functions of this role, this is a safety sensitive position.

      ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

         The job functions listed below represent the essential job duties and responsibilities of the above-listed position.

        •  Perform preventative maintenance repairs on diesel tractors as indicated on work orders or discovered during inspection.  Repairs include: change engine oil, engine oil filters, fuel filters, coolant filters, check and/or replace air filters.  Check oil levels, change or add if necessary to rear end, transmission, power steering, and hydraulic systems.  Lube all grease fittings on steering, suspension, drive train, and 5th wheel.  Check tires for wear and proper inflation.  Minor repairs such as:  replacing wiper blades, mirror repairs, head light, taillight, and marker lights, shock absorbers, etc.  Mounting and dismounting tires will be performed when necessary.  Document completed repairs on a work order.

        •  Operate tractor.  This will include locating tractor and driving it into the shop, then parking equipment on the lot when repairs are completed.

        •  Clean work area.  This will include cleaning floors, storing and cleaning shop and personal tools and equipment.  Trash removal.

        •  Procure parts.  This will include getting parts and materials from the parts room to make repairs to tractors.

        •  Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

        •  Timely and regular attendance according to the scheduled shift as determined by supervisory personnel.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

          The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

        •  Ability to read and write.

        •  Ability to use technical and service manuals.

        •  Ability to use hand tools, air tools, and specialty tools such as battery tester, torque wrench, and antifreeze tester.

        •  Ability to communicate in a professional manner with co-workers and drivers.

        •  Familiarity with preventive maintenance on diesel engines and all associated systems.

        •  Ability to operate a semi-tractor.  Possess a valid driver’s license or commercial driver’s license and have a good driving record.

       EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

        •  Must be either Junior or Senior in High School or attending Technical School for Diesel Mechanics.

        •  Must have experience working with tools.
