    Job Description

    Wish is seeking a creative and strategic Employment Counsel to join its Legal team. As the team’s second employment counsel, you will provide practical and business-focused legal advice on a variety of employment issues. You will be a key advisor, problem solver, and thought partner for our People Team (including Human Resources, Recruiting, and Workplace). You should have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and team-player mentality — all are key to succeeding in this role. This role will report to Wish’s Chief Compliance Officer & Associate General Counsel. 

    WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

    • Provide practical day-to-day advice and counseling on a broad range of employment issues, including performance management, terminations, hiring, wage and hour, leaves of absence, accommodations, compensation and benefits, and restrictive covenants
    • Advise our HRBPs on workplace investigations and employee relations concerns
    • Drive global employment law compliance through creation and maintenance of procedures, policies, and templates 
    • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues and local counsel to advise on international employment issues
    • Conduct ongoing training of the People team on developments in employment law, employee relations best practices, and investigation techniques
    • Support our ethics & compliance program by assisting in compliance investigations, proactively identifying compliance risks and ways to mitigate, and ensuring that our program evolves and remains relevant with our employees
    • Assist with employment-related disputes, including demand letters, agency charges, and litigation
    • Establish and maintain credibility and trust with key stakeholders, legal team members, and other colleagues

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and a bar membership in good standing
    • 5+ years of substantive employment law experience (law firm, government, and/or in-house)
    • Common sense, critical thinking skills, and a good sense of humor
    • Problem-solving skills, an ownership mentality, and an ability to learn quickly 
    • Ability to think quickly on your feet and simultaneously manage complex workloads, multiple demands, and shifting priorities
    • A passion for driving results and pride in your work
    • A sense of urgency, honesty, and fairness
    • Impeccable ethical standards

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Prior in-house or seconded company experience
    • Deep international experience
    • Ethics & compliance experience (anti-bribery and corruption, sanctions screening, conflicts of interest, gifts & entertainment, etc.)
    • Experience advising on equity or executive compensation matters 
    • Commercial contracting experience
