Notes to Applicants The Signs and Markings Division in the Austin Transportation Department has an opening for an Engineering Technician B to assist with maintaining the work flow of Signs and Markings operations and ensuring work scheduling and project status is accurately recorded, tracked, and reported. Additionally, the individual in this position will provide technological support to field staff as needed, may assist with the Street Banner Program and Street Name Change Program, and be responsible for ensuring City of Austin records management policies are followed throughout the division. Experience in the transportation field, preferably operations and/or infrastructure. Experience in asset management, work management, service management, contract management, inventory management, and procurement management. Experience training on collecting required data inputs needed for tracking and reporting on work status and projects. Experience providing customer service to internal and external clients. Experience with researching and compiling data for performance measure outputs, and reviewing data for quality assurance. Must have exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively communicate with supervisors, executive-level management, field staff, and other departments to coordinate work and report on operational progress. Must have strong attention to detail and be punctual with all work assignments. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Review permits/applications and plats within the City of Austin design manuals and standards including generally accepted practices by ensuring applicable information is included. Assist in the development of technical reports by performing research and gathering applicable and supporting data. Inspect projects for compliance within standards and specification of the contract and within the City of Austin design manuals and standards. Assist in the design of engineering projects by performing detail engineering calculations and drawings to meet standards and specifications. Draft for scope and review and approval. Perform CAD drawings of project elements for review. Prepare plans and specifications. Assist in the preparation of engineering specifications and plans by determining the appropriate standards and specifications. Assist with processing bids in the review of all bid packages prepared by consultants, attend pre-bid conferences, analyzes bid results, prepare detailed results for evaluation. Perform equipment evaluations calibration to ensure valid results. Operate computerized drafting software within the scope of project assignment. Prepare cost estimates using historical data and working knowledge to determine bid items. Determine bid items. Calculate quantities and prepare estimate for review. Ability to Read and update quarter-section maps. Ability to Read and comprehend simple specifications, plans, and shop drawings.
