Utility Operator New City of Bloomington, MN 3 reviews - Bloomington, MN $26.83 an hour The City of Bloomington is seeking individuals to perform operational and maintenance tasks to support various functions of the Utilities Division. These individuals will carry out assignments relating to water supply, treatment, distribution and wastewater collection and coordinated work with other Public Works Divisions as assigned. When assigned to the Water Treatment Plant: * Operate, on rotating shifts, a lime-softening treatment plant * Perform routine process control analysis * Transport treatment plant residuals to remote pond site using a commercial vehicle (CDL required) * Use all plant control systems and data collection and retrieval tools according to standard operating procedures * Perform cleaning, preventative maintenance and repair of water supply and treatment plant equipment * Perform labor necessary to complete assigned tasks on various Utilities projects * Properly collect and transport water samples and perform limited analyses * Respond promptly, professionally and accurately to customer service calls When assigned to Utility Operations: * Operate, inspect and make minor repairs to the wastewater collection system, including lift stations * Operate, inspect and make minor repairs to water distribution infrastructure * Install, read and repair residential and commercial meters as needed * Assist in excavation of water and sewer repairs, including set-ups for traffic control * Use all relevant Utilities' computerized applications and data collection tools * Operate trucks and other light equipment including commercial vehicles (CDL required) * Perform groundskeeping and landscaping duties * Work with or for other Public Works Divisions as assigned, including snowplowing and other maintenance activities * Perform other duties as apparent or assigned MINIMUM/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications * Candidates must possess one of the following education/experience criteria: * Graduation from an approved Water/Wastewater System Operator program, AND possession of a Minnesota Cl-D Water and a Cl-SD Wastewater Systems Operator's certificate; OR * An Associate's degree with a focus on water and/or wastewater, engineering, or environmental science, AND Possession of a Minnesota Cl-D Water and a Cl-SD Wastewater Systems Operator's certificate; OR * Three years' experience as a licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber along with the ability to obtain a Minnesota Cl-D Water and a Cl-SD Wastewater Systems Operator's certificate within 12 months of start date; OR * A minimum of three years of experience in a public works setting along with the ability to obtain a Minnesota Cl-D Water and a Cl-SD Wastewater Systems Operator's certificate within 12 months of start date. * A valid Minnesota driver's license with the ability to obtain a Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver's license with tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire * Perform all physical labor necessary to complete assigned tasks on various Utilities projects * Perform other duties as apparent or assigned Desirable Qualifications * Bachelor's degree with a focus on water and/or wastewater, engineering, or environmental science * Possess advanced Minnesota Operator Certificates * Work experience, including internships or seasonal employment, in utility maintenance and/or water and wastewater treatment for a municipality * Work experience in utility locating and Gopher State One Call management * Electrical or plumbing experience or training * MN Special (or higher class) Boilers license * Professional Society Membership(s) (APWA, AWWA, MWOA, WEF) Supervision of Others None SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Full-Time, Benefits-Eligible Position; Non-Exempt, Non-Union 2018 Wage Range: $26.83 - 33.52 per hour.
