benefits. Position Summary Duke Energy is currently seeking a highly
motivated student for a summer internship opportunity within our Fossil
Hydro Operations organization. As an FHO engineering intern, you will be
assisting project engineers and project managers providing support to
execute capital projects in a safe, reliable and economic manner. You
will not only gain exposure to a wide range of project management,
technical and operational opportunities, you will also acquire critical
insight into our company and our industry. Additionally, you will have
the opportunity to gain valuable networking connections which will help
prepare and develop your skills for future career opportunities in the
electrical utility industry. nbsp; Your work activities may involve the
following areas: Electrical Engineering Student - You may assist
engineers with: Design and construction of capital equipment
installations, investigate, budget, and evaluate proposed capital
projects; design and generate installation drawings or schematics;
coordinate equipment isolation; learn compliance with codes and
standards; and coordination of functional testing. Team with electrical
equipment testing experts for troubleshooting and plant betterment
projects involving cabling, motor control centers, power distribution,
transformers and capacitors. Assist control systems teams for
modifications and Working Conditions * Required to wear personal
protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, appropriate clothing, ear
plugs, fall protection, etc.) as needed. * Office and plant environment
- requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing, and occasional
exposure to temperature and noise Basic/Required Qualifications *
Currently enrolled and pursuing an Bachelors degree innbsp; Electrical
nbsp;Engineering (not engineering technology) from an ABET accredited
institute (ABET Accreditation can be verified here:
http://main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx) * Minimum GPA of
2.75 or higher * Minimum of three years of completed course work *
Experience in Security Controls Systems * Valid drivers license Desired
Qualifications * Class status as a Junior * Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or
higher * Technical proficiency innbsp;MS Office (i.e.- experience using
MS Excel) * Desire to pursue a career in the energy industry * Ability
to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective
prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work *
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, be a self-starter,
exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned
accountabilities * Demonstrated problem solving and analysis skills *
Ability to interface with all levels of management * Demonstrated
excellent verbal and written communication skills * Demonstrated ability
to work independently * Demonstrated leadership qualities through
effective decision making * Works effectively with others from diverse
