Position Summary:nbsp; This position is responsible for all duties associated with and related to the safe, efficient and cost effective installation and maintenance of natural gas facilities and appurtenances on both transmission and distribution natural gas systems per 49CFR Part 192, Piedmont Natural Gas policies and procedures and local/state regulations. This position is responsible for assisting with all duties related to the safe, efficient, and cost effective welding, fabrication, installation and maintenance of natural gas distribution and transmission systems. Welding shall be limited to non-gas carrying structural facilities and appurtenances as needed to support our natural gas distribution systems. In addition, this position must follow Piedmont Natural Gas policies/procedures and local/state regulations. Apprentice Welder Principle Responsibilities: The following list is not intended to be all inclusive of duties and responsibilities as needed and required. * Assist with the duties associated with fabrication, testing, modifying, and installing meter and regulator stations * Assist with the duties associated with installing, maintaining, repairing, relocating, and retiring new or existing pipelines to include emergency response * Perform structural and non-welding piping duties associated with non-regulated projects (Service Plus) * Completion of documentation and administrative paperwork * Preventive maintenance and upkeep of company vehicles and equipment * Assist Welder and/or Journeyman Welder as needed * Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must * Possess and maintain a valid Drivers License * Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent * Demonstrate effective communication skills (Verbal amp; Written),nbsp; interpersonal skills and safety awareness * 1 year of natural gas pipeline experience * PC Knowledge working in a Windows environment Preferred: * 2 years of natural gas pipeline welding experience * 2 years Technical School Education or Associate Degree * NC Fuel Piping, plumbing, or electrical license * PE Fusion Certification up to 4 butt to include branch and saddle fusion Physical Requirements: Must work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; lifting up to 75lbs; frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, stooping, crawling, standing, digging, and climbing; works on uneven terrain; many times with heavy vegetation; manual dexterity (hand/eye coordination); keen eyesight; good hearing; good sense of smell; ability to use breathing apparatus when responding to gas leaks.nbsp; Other Requirements: Weekend and evening work as required.
