Position Summary Thenbsp;Line Apprentice position supports the operations process in providing and maintaining service to new and existing customers by learning a working knowledge of computer system, tools, equipment, and material. Employees in thenbsp;Line Apprentice position will learn the day-to-day operations and specifications of the distribution system. In addition to normal work hours, employees in the Line Apprentice position must be available to be on-call with a more experienced person, as required, and to work all hours, as needed, day or night, weekends or holidays, during planned outages or emergency situations. Employees in thenbsp;Line Apprentice position must learn to perform all duties in a safe manner and adhere to all Company safety rules and procedures. Responsibilities Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: * Constructs, maintains, and repairs electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines, * Installs and repairs electrical equipment such as street lighting and load control devices, * Constructs overhead and underground distribution lines based on engineering specifications, including setting poles, pulling cable, setting transformers, etc., * Installs equipment such as transformers, capacitors, regulators, load control devices, meters, street lights, safe lights, etc., * Maintains and repairs equipment, e.g., checking equipment and performing preventative maintenance using, test equipment such as volt and amp meters to measure the performance of equipment, * Responds to trouble calls when equipment fails and/or electrical service is interrupted, and * Supports the companys goals and represents the company positively and professionallynbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Working Conditions * Work environment ranges from indoors to outside in varying degrees of heat and cold weather conditions * Emergency situations may require working at night and in inclement weather * Subject to confined spaces (e.g., manholes, vaults, etc.) * Shift work, overtime, weekend work * Subject to periodic call-out duty * Frequent travel Available Locations: * Columbus - 1 * Huntington - 2 * Corydon - 1 * Salem - 1 * Vincennes - 2 * Shelbyville - 2 * Avon - 1 * Franklin - 2 * Princeton - 2 * Aurora - 1 * Clarksville -1 * Greencastle - 1 Basic/Required Qualifications Qualifications: 1.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;High school diploma or GED. 2.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Valid driver's license. Desired Qualifications : * Completion of a Duke Energy Sponsored Qualified event (Line Worker Bootcamp) * Certificate from Linemans Training School * Experience in the utility industry * Military experience Specific Requirements: * nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; DOT Physical * nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; DOT Certification * nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Ability to stand a minimum of 5-6 hours; may be on ground, in a bucket on a line truck, or atnbsp;nbsp; the top of a distribution pole. * nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Ability to sit for a minimum of 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck or sitting in a manhole or an underground vault. * nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment.
