The internship program is an opportunity for the applicants to learn about the nuclear industry and general power plant operation while continuing their education. nbsp;The applicants will be working with qualified experienced technicians during all stages of job performance, preparation, pre-job briefing , performance, and post-job briefing.nbsp; This will allow the applicants the opportunity to learn at every step of every job.nbsp; Mechanical Technician- is responsible for the maintenance of various sizes and types of pumps and valves, as well as the maintenance of diesel engines, ventilation systems, compressors and heat exchangers. Basic Qualifications: * GPA of 2.75 or greater * High School Diploma or equivalent * Full-time student (taking at least 12 credit hours per semester) at Community College (near the site and will be determined prior to posting) pursuing a two-year technical school degree in General engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics Technology, or Welding Technology * Must have completed 12 credit hours but no more than 52 credit hours. Desired Qualifications: * Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills (expresses self clearly, is an active listener, and disagrees with others in a constructive manner.) * Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing the computer (basic computer skills, i.e. Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Excel, etc.) * Good organizational skills * Experience in positions where you had to follow safety processes and procedures. * Experience in positions where you had to develop and maintain positive working relationships (works effectively with others from a diverse background.) * Demonstrated mechanical and/or electrical aptitude and problem solving skills. * Demonstrated leadership ability (holds self-accountable, maintains composure under stress, able to multi-task, etc.) * Demonstrated diagnostic and analytical skills. * Experience using industrial tools and equipment (man lifts, forklifts, etc.) * Self-motivated (acts with a sense of urgency, perseveres in the face of problems; follows through on commitments.) * Demonstrated ability to work independently. * Demonstrated technical problem solving skills. * Capable and willing to learn and apply basic mechanical skills (learns from experience, seeks and uses feedback from others to improve performance.) * Experience with hands-on work including assembly/disassembly and problem investigation. * Mechanical Technician experience with welding techniques and hands-on experience. Working conditions * 10 hours per day maximum * Limited weekend / Holiday Work * Plant environment w/extreme temperature ranges and high humidity * Exposure to dust, fumes, and high noise levels * Ability to wear protective clothing including hard had, safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves * Includes climbing, stooping, pulling and pushing

    • Areas of responsibility include components inside the Radiologically Controlled area where monitoring for radiation dose is required.
