Job Description The mission of the ERCOT Summer Internship Program is to partner with students pursuing academic excellence to create opportunities that stretch learning experiences into a work environment with intellectually challenging projects and assignments. These opportunities will promote utility industry awareness, growth, and identification of top talent for future employment. The summer internship will be 40 hours a week during the summer. Summary of responsibilities of the Transmission Planning Intern : Transmission Planning Interns will work closely with planning engineers working on reliability and economic transmission planning at ERCOT. The interns will be expected to work on power system simulation tools such as . Interns can expect hands-on experience on power system simulation tools such as Powerworld, UPLAN, PSSE. Project Deliverable: Transmission Planning interns will be assigned to challenging engineering projects and assignments. A list of sample projects are listed below: * Distributed Energy Resources (DER) statistics and modeling research: develop statistics of the registered DERs in ERCOT, and research modeling options and potential impact to the ERCOT planning processes. Short circuit sequence DB building: * Review existing short circuit database modeling processes, design and test robust and efficient short circuit model update process. * Geo Magnetically Induced Currents (GIC) results validation tool: automate the process of validating the GIC results Benchmark results between different GIC models so that to evaluate the impact of changes in model and assumptions. * Study the impact of wide-spread adoption of electric vehicles on transmission planning. * Study will involve use of production cost simulation tool and research into electric vehicle charging patterns. Desired educational level: * Applicants should be pursuing a bachelors or graduate-level degree in electrical engineering, or a related field, with a focus on power systems and/or electricity markets Preferred experience: * Basic understanding of power system analysis * Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Python programming and Matlab Preferred work schedule of the intern: * 40 hours a week / Monday Friday 8AM - 5PM * Must be available to work onsite Interns will not be eligible for remote work. * May 28, 2019 August 9, 2019 Our summer internship program is a paid learning experience targeting primarily for students who have a GPA of 3.0 or better and who have at least completed their sophomore year.
