Maricopa Road Area of Interest: Museum Salary Type: Base Pay Salary/ Hourly Rate: $43,051 Salary Tribal Driving Permit Required: Yes OPEN TO IN-DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES ONLY ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS: Assists the Senior Curator in the care of Federal and Community collections which are held solely for the benefit of the Gila River Indian Community, insuring their appropriate care, study, and interpretation. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Huhugam Heritage Center Assistant Curator assists the Senior Curator in the care of Federal and Community collections which are held solely for the benefit of the Gila River Indian Community, insuring their appropriate care, study and interpretation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist the Curator in registering and cataloging Federal and Gila River Indian Community collections and archives. Provide proper care, preservation, access and storage for the Centers collections. Responsible for maintaining all accession and registration records, catalogs records, donor contacts, title documents, retrieval records, etc., related to community collections and archives. Coordinate documents and maintains records for all loaned objects from and to other institutions or individuals for exhibitions, education programs and other Tribal uses. Coordinate to secure own and other special grant funded projects related to collections and archives as appropriate. Give public presentations in area of specialty and collections care, attends and represents the Huhugam Heritage Center at professional conferences, workshops or regional meetings. Assist with exhibit development and collections management in preparation for exhibition. Perform other related duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Knowledge of preservation care, handling of collections and archives. ------------ Knowledge in at least one area of collections and/or archives (e.g., ceramics, textiles, basketry, oral history, etc.). Knowledge about ethical, legal and technical matters related to the Native American Graves Protection Act, Native American Religious Freedom Act and other technical matters related to Native American materials. Knowledge of computers, i.e., Microsoft word, Excel, Access, etc. Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and equipment. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to prepare required records and reports. Ability to maintain orderly and accessible files. Must have the ability to make sound decision and have good judgment. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with people of varied economic, educational and cultural backgrounds, other employees, Community Officials and the general public. Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Museum Science, Arts Education, Southwestern Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field, and three (3) ye ars experience in curatorial activities or archaeological repository working with collections and registration methods; or any combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position; and which includes one (1) year supervisory experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Required to pass a background check. Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit . Proof of driving record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application.
