Application Deadline: 08/31/2018 at 11:59 pm Mountain Time # of Positions: 1 Job Type: Regular Job End Date: Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Pay Range: $20.72 - $30.06 Minimum Age Requirement: Job Description: Responsible for field collections on overdue accounts. Connect and disconnect single-phase meters. Interacts with customers, company employees, and authorities to resolve issues, taking into account the needs of the company and customers in alignment with Idaho Power and PUC rules and regulations. With minimum supervision, reads and records energy usage and demand into a handheld device. This position does require the successful candidate to live in or relocate to the established boundaries of the assigned work location. REQUIRED SKILLS Knowledge of: Level I: * Basic math and business concepts. Basic computer knowledge. Level II: * Meter types, collection arrangement procedures, basic cash functions (receipt writing) meter base configuration and check-out procedures, basic electricity (single and three phase.) ITRON MVRS, high/low parameters, state and local electrical inspection requirements. Skills in: Level I: * Ability to communicate effectively with customers both orally and in writing. Level II: * Basic computer knowledge. Prefer: * Work management, customer service and conflict resolution Ability to: Level I: * Use Mobile Workforce applications, remove and install self-contained meters, use safety and personal protective equipment properly, apply credit and collection policies, deal effectively with customers in emotionally charged situations, discuss power usage with residential customers, operate company radio, solve basic mathematics problems, use common hand tools, work independently and as part of a team, maintain and operate a company vehicle in accordance with company policy, and stand call. Level II: Prefer: * Experience with the following tasks: connect/disconnect in adverse weather conditions, assist in training new meter specialists, apply Idaho and Oregon credit and collection policies, communicate with Dispatch operations MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: * High school diploma or GED. Experience: Level I: * Two years work experience which includes physical labor and interaction in a team or customer service oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently outdoors in all conditions. Prefer: * Utility experience collecting on delinquent accounts and reading meters, or experience and/or education related to basic electricity, or experience interacting with a diverse customer base. Level II: * Successful competition of the Meter Specialist Training Program including 2 years experience as a Meter Specialist I Prefer: * Utility experience collecting on delinquent accounts and reading meters. Experience interacting with a diverse customer base. Licenses & Certifications: * Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position. * Valid first aid/CPR card or ability to obtain one within 90 days. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The Meter Specialist I position consists of the removal and installation of meters. Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, balance and reach. Must have the ability to walk varied distances each day at a rapid pace on uneven terrain that may involve wet, rocky, muddy, snow-packed, or icy conditions while carrying hand held equipment and meters weighing 5 pounds. Must be able to work in mountainous areas in extreme weather conditions. Must be able to snowshoe up to one mile. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. and on occasion lift items weighing up to 50 lbs., with one or both hands. Must be able to get in and out of a vehicle up to multiple times per day. Must be able to operate 4-wheel drive vehicle, various all-terrain vehicles and tow trailers as required. Must be able to frequently grasp items and use fine motor skills to operate a keypad, computer keyboard, etc. Must be able climb various ladders. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. This position also requires lifting and carrying a step ladder (20 lbs.) and other necessary tools to work site at distances up to ½ mile. A G5 handheld computer (5 lbs.) is carried up to 15 miles and up to 35 stops per day. Unloading the truck may involve lifting the tailgate, reaching into the bed and pulling equipment out, and moving cones. Installation requires push/pull force of up to 25-30 lbs. to seat the meter base. Heavy objects may occasionally need to be moved when blocking access gates. It will be necessary to interact and negotiate with customers to collect past due accounts and obtain access to blocked meters.
