    Cable Splicer Apprentice (0G) Tracking Code 20180304 Job Description Position Summary: Performs a variety of duties related to the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of overhead and/or underground distribution systems, transmission facilities, networks, automatic throw-over switches, street light systems, power plants and wind farms to provide continuous and dependable electric service to customers. Primary Duties: Members in the apprentice program perform duties related to the craft and consistent with their achieved level within the program which may include: Constructs and maintains underground network electric distribution systems in accordance with approved safety standards and work methods: Installs, repairs and/or removes conductors, transformers, capacitors, self-contained meters, network, automatic throw-over equipment, services, and security/street lights. Extends and rebuilds the distribution system based on engineering drawings in accordance with Approved Construction Standards, which includes construction of large vaults. Performs troubleshooting and service restoration in emergency situations resulting from equipment or cable failure, vehicle accidents, severe weather, etc. Constructs and maintains underground network distribution system in accordance with approved safety standards and work methods: Performs appropriate switching to de-energize facilities and/or re-route current to allow service continuity and safe job performance. Performs substation switching for the network and automatic throw-over system. Installs and repairs all types of primary cable, risers, switch cubicles, automatic throw-over, network switches, and makes associated terminations on underground distribution systems. Installs and repairs transformers, secondary cable, risers, pedestals, underground services and self contained meters to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Locates and repairs underground faults on primary and secondary circuits. Utilizes equipment, materials and manpower in a safe, efficient and effective manner and maintains accurate records of work performed: Completes time sheets, Equipment Failure Reports, Meter Orders, and other appropriate documentation in a timely and accurate manner. Inspects, maintains, and test tools, ladders, hotsticks, and all other individually assigned equipment. Maintains positive relationships with contacts inside and outside the Company: Contacts customers in a courteous manner regarding service installation, repairs, interruptions, etc., and assures a positive company image is projected. Maintains positive working relationships with Company departments and staff, ensuring appropriate and timely transaction of information and services. Maintains and operates assigned vehicle used in performance of duties: Arranges for regular and timely servicing of vehicle. Maintains and stores vehicle in clean and proper working order. Operates radio to receive and/or transmit job related information. Operates hydraulic boom to move heavy loads, dig holes, and set poles. Attends and participates in safety meetings, schools and training sessions regarding safe and proper performance. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Experience operating construction equipment (e.g., forklift, backhoe, etc.). Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification required within 90 days. RELOCATION ASSISTANCE IS NOT AUTHORIZED FOR THIS POSITION Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to read, understand and follow Construction Standards, Operating Practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), Approved Work Methods, and/or Engineering sketches/specifications. Basic understanding of electrical principals. Ability to operate trucks, tractors, and other construction equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with team members, leaders, and customers. Ability to understand and comply with company policies and operating procedures. Computer skills with knowledge of software, as required (e.g., MS- Outlook email). Ability to adjust and adapt across varied working conditions and evolving business needs. Mechanical aptitude and familiarity working with mechanical equipment (e.g., forklift, backhoe, etc.). Working Conditions: Requires travel across OGE service areas. May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, overtime, and call-outs. May be required to be periodically available for after-hours emergencies throughout OG& Service Territory. Ability to work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment. May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather. Required to work with multi-crafts crews and other groups. Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification required within 90 days. Successful completion of Lineman and switching schools administered or sponsored by the Company. Required to work with energized equipment. Required to perform various duties while wearing a respirator. Required to maintain permanent residence within 30 minutes of assigned work location. Required to obtain and maintain any security clearance badges to enter any government facility serviced by the company. Required to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and meet requirements to obtain and maintain clearance to access government facilities (i.e. Tinker Air Force Base, Courthouse, etc.), as needed.
