    Description

    Waud Capital Partners (“WCP”) is a leading middle market private equity firm based in Chicago with over $3 billion in assets under management and a long track record of generating top quartile returns with a unique, research-driven approach to identifying investment opportunities. WCP is seeking an Analyst to join its Business Development team to play an important role in building the franchise and pursuing middle market private equity investments in software, technology, technology-enabled business services. 

    The Business Development Analyst will be a key team member in WCP’s continued growth and success, responsible for identifying and building relationships with executives and investment banks and assisting in developing and implementing new business origination processes and procedures across the firm. The right candidate will have high energy, a strong work ethic coupled with a positive and team-oriented attitude, a strong finance background (preferably prior investment banking, private equity, wealth management, or accounting experience), a curious interest in learning new businesses and industries, and a process-oriented workstyle/mindset.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Maintain relationships between the firm and sources of deal flow (e.g., investment banks)
    • Expand WCP’s relationship network with key industry contacts
    • Develop new sources of deal flow within the intermediary universe and through direct dialogue with industry executives
    • Create and prioritize target company lists in collaboration with investment professionals
    • Generate acquisition opportunities via direct outreach (calling is a requirement) and industry networking
    • Attend conferences, management meetings, introductory meetings with executives and investment bankers – will act as the face of WCP
    • Communicate WCP’s value proposition and approach to investing
    • Prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis as necessary
    • Assist in developing proprietary research for new and ongoing investment theses
    • Assist in managing internal CRM (process oversight, data entry when necessary) and help produce reporting for firm and deal team review
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business or finance, along with a track record of excellent academic performance
    • 1 – 3 years of work experience (preferably at an investment bank, private equity firm, consulting firm, sales division or within a  corporate business development role)
    • High degree of curiosity, creativity, proactive mentality, and desire to work in entrepreneurial environment
    • Maturity and presence to interact with C-level executives as well as key constituents of the firm
    • Self-starter with strong sales and communication skills
    • Comfortable working within CRM systems and experience with developing summary reports and dashboards
    • Strong analytical skills
    • A pattern of excellence, both personally and professionally, demonstrated by the individual’s education, career track record, intellect, and professional reputation
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively with management teams
    • Self-awareness, maturity, and irreproachable integrity
    • Must be willing and able to travel (up to 30%)
