Job Description FivePrimes Automation Engineering team is helping Scientists reimagine experiments by using robots to automate lab processes. Yes, we did say robots! Students participating in this program will gain valuable experience by working in a state-of-the-art robotics lab focused on developing innovative protein and antibody drugs. He/She will gain experience in working with automation equipment such as articulated robots, automated liquid handlers, plate washers, plate readers, imagers, plate hotels, etc., as well as microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip technologies. They will gain exposure to various software tools used in high throughput experimentation and laboratory automation. The student will have the opportunity to develop programming skills by writing scripts and programs to enable automation of biological and bio-chemical assays. He/She will gain experience in working with scientists and engineers to solve real-world science and technology problems to make a positive impact in the immuno-oncology field. The student will have the opportunity to participate in group meetings and present their work to others. In this position, you will assist engineers and scientists at FivePrime in designing, developing and deploying high throughput robotic workflows and microfluidics to automate biological and bio-chemical experiments. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following: Assist in day-to-day activities in the Robotics lab such as: Train robots on automation platforms Run tests to qualify automation equipment such as automated liquid handlers, plate washers, plate readers, imaging equipment, etc. Assist in the design and testing of protocols to conduct biological and bio-chemical experiments on the automation platforms and microfluidic (lab-on-a-chip) platforms. Assist in design and development of new automation and microfluidic systems. Assist in documenting automation systems and protocols Qualifications Currently enrolled in Biomedical, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Physics or related degree programs Ability to commit to 20-30 hours per week for a 6 month project Basic programming/scripting skills in JAVA, C, C Sharp, Javascript, or Matlab Engineering lab experience Additional Information At FivePrime, we believe a diverse workforce drives our success as a company.
