Job description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) – CCU provides specialized, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill cardiac patients. The RN is responsible for continuous monitoring, assessment, and management of patients with life-threatening cardiovascular conditions, working collaboratively with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in the CCU
Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, hemodynamic status, and patient responses
Assess, interpret, and respond to ECG changes and critical lab values
Administer medications, IV drips, and blood products per physician orders and protocols
Operate and manage cardiac monitoring equipment, ventilators, infusion pumps, and other critical care devices
Recognize and respond promptly to cardiac emergencies, including codes and rapid response situations
Perform and assist with invasive and non-invasive procedures (e.g., central lines, arterial lines, temporary pacing)
Collaborate with cardiologists, intensivists, and allied healthcare professionals
Educate patients and families regarding cardiac conditions, treatments, and recovery plans
Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific)
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Minimum 2 years of CCU, ICU, or critical care nursing experience preferred
Strong knowledge of cardiac physiology, pharmacology, and critical care principles
Certifications & Requirements
BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – required
PALS – preferred (as applicable)
NIH Stroke Scale – preferred
Telemetry competency required
