    Job Summary:

    The Controls Engineer plays a critical role to the oversight and management of our automation and production control systems.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Work with equipment manufactures to commission and startup bar forming, packaging, palletizing, and powder packaging equipment.
    • Provide on-site support to quickly resolve controls issues associated with bar and powder production.
    • Maintain newly installed production and packaging control systems, including PLC hardware and programs, instrumentation, and drives.
    • Work with Operations department to implement continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Provide technical direction and training to the electrical maintenance team.
    • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), documentation, and preventative maintenance work orders to drive sustainable equipment operation.
    • Support off-shift troubleshooting as required.
    • Provide electrical support for new Capital projects.
    • Provide clear communication to both production staff and management.
    • Develop familiarity with plant HVAC, fire protection, and security systems.

    Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

    • Proficient in Allen Bradley programming and hardware troubleshooting. Able to back up and restore program files from on-site server.
    • Proficient with instrumentation configuration, programming, and troubleshooting. Instrumentation includes flow, pressure, and temperature transmitters. Able to tune control loops.
    • Proficient with Rockwell Automation variable frequency drives, including initial configuration.
    • Able to read schematics and single-line drawings.
    • Familiar with 480V distribution and maintenance, including high voltage safety protocols.
    • Familiarity with Ignition SCADA software and Sepasoft MES software a plus.
    • Familiarity with network design and maintenance a plus.
    • Familiarity with servers, virtual servers, historians, uninterruptable power supplies, and thin client managers a plus.

    Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline.
    • 5+Years as a Controls Engineer in Food & Beverage industry, and/or packaging and Consumer Goods industry.
    • Experience with Rockwell and Allen Bradley automation.
    • 3+ years of directing projects and/or teams.
    • Experience creating and editing HMI screens.

    Work Environment:

    Exposure to both the office setting and food manufacturing facility.

    • Significant amount of time working at a computer station
    • Occasional visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor
    • Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
    • Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.

    Physical demands:

    • Frequent sitting, standing, or walking.
    • Ability to frequently lift up to 50lbs.
    • Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
    • Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
