Job Title: Accounting Operations Specialist

Location: Urbandale, IA (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (3 months with potential for full-time conversion)
Pay Rate: $38.46 an hour
Schedule: 40 hours/week
Work Environment: Hybrid – 2–3 days/week onsite (minimum 6 days/month)
Start Date: ASAP

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Operations Specialist to oversee day-to-day accounting processes, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support internal controls. This role will also provide leadership to the accounting team while partnering with business leaders to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate processing, recording, and reporting of financial data
• Maintain and ensure accuracy of financial reporting
• Support and improve internal control environment, including SOX compliance and audit readiness
• Ensure compliance with internal and external control requirements
• Apply accounting principles, regulatory standards, and best practices in daily operations
• Delegate, review, and approve work, including ad hoc financial analysis requests
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to accounting staff
• Foster team engagement and a positive work culture
• Partner with leadership on financial strategies, planning, and performance insights
• Identify process improvement opportunities and lead implementation of solutions
• Collaborate across teams to drive efficiency, controls, and technology enhancements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office Suite
• Strong analytical and financial acumen
• High attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage workload efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with cross-functional or multi-location teams
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex business processes
• Proven ability to resolve conflicts and deliver results on time

Interview Process

• 1st Round: In-person interview
• 2nd Round: Virtual interview (Zoom with Hiring Manager)

Working Conditions:

• May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels, such as from office equipment.
• The ability to lift up to 30lbs.
• Use of computers and technology
