Title: CNC Production Supervisor
Shift: 1st Shift - flexible start time between 5am-7am work 4/10's schedule and half day on Fridays
Pay: $70k-$85k+ (+/- depending on experience)
Location: Austintown, OH
The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the assigned departments/shifts to promote and ensure a safe work environment, development of Lean principles, achievement of quality, on-time delivery and shipment goals, fair work practices, regulatory and policy compliance, continuous improvement, and optimization of people, equipment, materials, and other assets.
Production Supervisor Responsibilities:
Demonstrates company values and shares the organizational commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and a high-performance workforce through positive employee relations.
- Ensures the ethical achievement of company goals related to customer satisfaction (Quality, On-Time Delivery, Responsiveness) by providing daily coaching and direction to assigned employees, while coordinating activities with other members of the management team and functional departments.
- Leads a behavior-based safety culture by setting a positive example and ensuring employees are engaged in all activities in a safe manner; monitoring, enforcing, and complying with environmental, health and safety (EHS) policies and regulations; soliciting employee feedback regarding safety; coordinating efforts with the EHS Manager to implement improvements to ensure a safe workplace; and supporting participation in the Safety Team and acting as a member.
- Maintains direct responsibility for the quality of products manufactured through assigned departments, managing, and participating in related activities as appropriate such as NC Investigation, ensuring employees follow work orders, engineering, customer, and other guidelines, company policies, and procedures, issuing engineering change requests, isolating quality hold material, etc.
- Leads continuous improvement efforts to ensure Lean practices are maintained by mentoring Team Leaders, engaging with employees to participate in kaizen events, monitoring 6S, and setting a positive example for all employees.
- Employs progressive management practices to engage and develop employees, ensure performance management (including timely and effective formal and informal performance feedback), reward and recognize positive actions, promote multi-directional communication, and address employee concerns in a timely fashion.
- Manages processes related to human resources, such as training; coaching and corrective actions, scheduling, time keeping, pay and position changes; performance review processes and employee accountability; hiring and terminations; policy and procedure compliance, employee development, etc. Collaborates with Human Resources, Operations Management, and others to ensure fair, consistent, and timely application of all policies to promote a high-performing workforce and employee retention.
- Monitors production schedule, attendance, and scheduled time off to ensure appropriate staffing levels, making necessary adjustments to maintain quality and delivery reliability with minimization of labor costs.
- Works as an effective team member by proactively communicating, collaborating with, and supporting others in a cooperative and constructive manner.
- Completes all assigned productivity, capital, continuous improvement, or other projects; makes recommendations for and implements continuous improvement actions. Participates as an active member of continuous improvement teams.
- Participates in the development of policies and procedures to effectively manage the business.
- Assists in establishing and attaining value stream goals and metrics.
- Manages production related tooling and supplies.
- May travel (including internationally) on an infrequent basis (less than 10%).
Production Planning:
- Utilizes the ERP system and professional judgment to create and manage a constrained Master Production Schedule for assigned product lines.
- Manages near- and long-range changes in demand with Sales, Operations, and Purchasing. Modifies the schedule as possible to meet requests and communicates status through ERP system and other tools.
- Clearly communicates schedule requirement and plan attainment information through daily production meeting, email, and direct conversation. Collaborates with the team to proactively determine solutions for issues affecting our ability to meet requirements.
- Assists other planners and/or schedulers with job order sequencing, expediting, and issue resolution as needed.
- Performs general troubleshooting of the system related to variances and exceptions found through daily activities.
- Maintains and improves ERP data integrity by performing regular review and troubleshooting of variances and exceptions impacting planning accuracy; partners with stakeholders to resolve/improve.
- Provides timely and regular updates to Sales and Customer Service teams regarding status of orders and progress against build plans in order to keep customers informed.
- Supports forecasting of sales and build requirements.
General Responsibilities:
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned and/or as needed to support company objectives.
- Meets on-site and other attendance requirements to effectively build positive relationships and interact with all employees.
About you:
Work Experience Required:
- 5 years of experience as a Production Supervisor in a made-to-order manufacturing environment, directly managing at least 15 employees.
- 3 years of experience in a machining environment
Work Experience Preferred:
- 2 years of experience working in manufacturing environment practicing LEAN + Six Sigma concepts
- 3 years of hands-on experience with CNC Mill / Lathe operation with CAM Programming knowledge
Education and Skills:
- Highly functional with ERP systems (Microsoft AX Dynamics, preferred) and HRIS (particularly time keeping).
- Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively at all levels.
- High degree of critical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve a variety of moderately complex business issues.
- Excellent leadership skills to manage a diverse workforce fairly, consistently, professionally, and effectively.
- Working knowledge of CNC Programming and Mill/Turn equipment.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office products, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, etc.
- Flexibility and adaptability to flex between various activities throughout the day.
- Ability to understand manufacturing and business processes with a bias for continuous improvement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to perform the following physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Position may require person to sit at a desk for up to 8 hours, constantly performing repetitive motions to use a personal computer and other offices equipment.
- Walking around an office and industrial environment up to 8 hours per day
- Must be able to intermittently stand and utilize fine motor skills throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift up to 30lbs infrequently.
- Will occasionally need to bend and climb throughout the workday.
- Ability to perform activities related to travel (for example: driving, flying on airplanes, moving throughout airports) on an infrequent basis, both domestically and internationally (approximately 10%).
