Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior CNC Machinist to handle complex machining operations for precision-engineered components. This role requires expert-level, on-machine programming, process optimization, and precision setups. It is ideal for a highly skilled machinist who excels at high-accuracy, low-volume/high-mix work directly from engineering drawings.
Responsibilities
- Lead setup, programming, and operation of multi-axis CNC mills, lathes, and/or manual equipment.
- Develop optimized machining strategies for complex aerospace and high-performance components.
- Partner with engineering teams to design fixtures, select tooling, and refine manufacturing processes.
- Perform detailed dimensional inspections using precision measurement tools and optical comparators.
- Diagnose complex machining issues, support root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Serve as a technical mentor and trainer for junior machining personnel.
- Drive shop-floor continuous improvement initiatives targeting cycle times, quality, and tool life.
- Maintain accurate setup sheets, process documentation, and operational logs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; associate degree or precision machining certification preferred.
- 5+ years of hands-on machining experience with proven expertise in complex CNC setup and operation.
- Demonstrated ability to program manually at the machine control (G-code and/or conversational) directly from blueprints.
- Strong blueprint reading skills and practical fluency in GD&T.
- Proficiency with advanced inspection tools (micrometers, height gauges, comparators).
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable attendance, strong problem-solving skills, and a team-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with conversational controls (Mazatrol, Hurco) or various multi-axis machine platforms.
- Exposure to CAD/CAM systems.
- Experience with specialized grinding operations (surface grinding, OD grinding).
- Prior experience mentoring or leading junior machinists.
