    We have partnered with the City of New Haven to conduct community-oriented, waterfront boating activities at the Canal Dock Boathouse on Long Wharf.

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION: CDBi is looking for a marketing and communications intern who has interest in any of the following on-the-water, small, non-motor boating activities including sailing, rowing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and dragon boating. Looking for a person with a can-do-attitude who is willing to take direction, offer suggestions and be a creative problem solver.

    The intern will assist this start-up non-profit organization with various online investigative projects, social media content development, planning and posting, and some web content development and SEO projects.

    Outcomes:  A major component of this work will deliver experience setting marketing communications strategy, audience outreach, content development and measurement of this activity.

    Examples of specific tasks are:

    1. Develop overall social media content calendar, tactical plan and measurement dashboard for the promotion of various regularly scheduled (evergreen) content and creation of this content.
    2. Examples of our evergreen content areas are:
    • Holiday/monthly greetings
    • Vehicle/boat donations
    • Annual events such as indoor rowing relay and dragon boat regatta
    • Community Day event promotion
    • Giving Tuesday
    • Annual Appeal
    • Erging and Yoga on platform
    • Happy Hour on the Harbor Event – September 15
    • Crew Haven program
    • Fall Event for Crew Haven
    • Recommend content to reach New Haven high school kids
    • Develop CT and New Haven specific media list for PR outreach
    • Investigate what opportunities Google offers to non-profits (ad-words,
    • YouTube program, social media content posting tool, etc). Develop a summary for the Board and make recommendations. Other tasks may follow based on this recommendation.
    • Develop a basic style guide for Canal Dock

    DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
    • Self-motivated
    • Strong writing skills with high competence in crafting persuasive copy for various mediums, including web and social media
    • Highly organized and able to work on multiple projects
    • Aptitude for learning new skills and willingness to tackle new challenges
    • Basic knowledge and comfort working in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Experience using Canva and/or Wix is a plus
    • Role will report to the Executive Director of the organization and may take direction from and/or collaborate with volunteers on the Marketing committee.

    JOB FUNCTION: Marketing and development.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Producing marketing materials, taking pictures, posting to social media, making changes to website using Wix, promoting the organization and it's activities to the public.
    • Ideal Skills or Qualifications Needed: Experience in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications. Experience using Canva a plus. Experience in Wix a plus.

    EXPECTED INTERN EXPERIENCE OUTCOMES: Learn to work in a small nonprofit environment that serves the New Haven Community by connecting people to rowing, paddling and sailing programs.

    ANTICIPATED TIME REQUIREMENTS: 30 hours a week – flexible! We ask that the intern make themselves available 1-5 hours a week during traditional work hours to meet and complete other activities. Otherwise, the time spent is flexible!

    START AND END DATES: May 31, 2023 -August 4, 2023

    WORK MODEL: hybrid (most time will be spent working remotely)

    PAY DETAILS: Unpaid. Funding may be available through the Yale Office of Fellowships and Funding, OCS, or other Yale institutional resources.
