What we're looking for in a founding Head of Engineering (our first hire):

This is a unique opportunity to meaningfully influence an industry-changing platform from the earliest phases of development. Our ideal teammate should be:

• Excited about owning the technical vision: You're a proactive thought partner who will challenge us, think outside the box, and proudly step in as the company's tech leader. You must be a true self-starter — everyone says this, but we really mean it
• A technical expert: You're an experienced software engineering leader who is comfortable taking on multiple roles (frontend, backend, sales support, etc.). You have:
  • Experience as a leader for mobile-first web apps using React and NodeJS.
  • Led the build of a successful enterprise product with exemplary UX for multiple consumer and/or employee roles
  • Strong knowledge of building cloud apps, preferably on AWS and can be the cloud admin as needed
  • Experience coding and configuring for enterprise security - and are able to mentor your staff to do the same as needed
  • Experience establishing a proper DevOps pipeline for team and product success
  • Comfort managing and working with outsourced development (which is where we are today) and building up our own team over time
  • Data science expertise (bonus points, not required)
• A doer and a leader: You're equally as excited about building product as building a team. Our Head of Engineering will be comfortable reviewing code regularly and jumping in to support the team as needed.
• Comfortable with the early stage: You should enjoy continuous testing and iteration, be comfortable wearing many hats, and appreciate the evolving nature/needs of a pre-seed stage organization.
• Open to NYC: We have a strong preference for engineers based in NYC. We believe a regular cadence of in-person collaboration accelerates learning, reinforces team culture, and drives efficiency for early-stage companies. If you are excited about the opportunity, but based outside of NYC, let's still chat! We're happy to get creative.
• Passionate: The state of nursing in the U.S. is dire. We are solving a real problem that has serious implications for the health of our communities, the stability of our healthcare system, and the well-being of the largest sector of the healthcare workforce. Healthcare experience is optional, passion for the mission is required.

About M7 Health

Nurses are the largest sector of the healthcare workforce, yet the least invested in and the least technologized. Amid a record nursing shortage and three years of unprecedented turnover, health systems lack the data, insights, tools, and operational know-how to foster the flexibility, predictability, and autonomy that the modern nurse demands.

M7 is a nursing workforce management platform built for health systems. Our tools allow nurses to customize their roles, health systems to consistently and predictably staff their units, and patients to receive care they need.

We recently closed a $1.75m pre-seed round (led by 25m Health), won a grant in partnership with NYU Langone Health, and are supported by the Blavatnik Fellowship at Harvard Business School. We are ready to bring on a Head of Engineering to supercharge our product and growth.

About the Founders

Cofounder & CEO, Ilana Springer Borkenstein

I am a registered nurse-turned-entrepreneur who is passionate about elevating the nursing profession. I practiced as a RN on a bone marrow transplant unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I then caught the startup bug through experiences as the first (and then eighth) hire at two early stage health-tech startups. I earned my nursing degree from UPenn and an MBA from Harvard. I'm currently a Blavatnik Fellow at Harvard Business School.

Cofounder & COO, Eric Gruskin

I am a former strategy consultant (Boston Consulting Group) and operator (Digital Transformation @ City National Bank of FL), focusing most of my career on transforming messy analog processes into distinct digital experiences. My passion for this mission comes from my family, most of whom have worked as healthcare providers in the metro Detroit area. I earned my BA from University of Michigan (GoBlue!) and an MBA from Harvard.
