Job Description

Deans of Instruction at KIPP Miami are expected to lead and coach instruction, to manage the scope & sequence of their assigned grade/content, to build and manage assessments and administer them on a prescribed cadence, to lead data analysis and response cycles, to facilitate content team meetings, to cultivate the leadership of GLCs and ICs on their teams, and to build a culture of achievement and joy for students and adults.

_ Key Roles and Responsibilities include:_

People Leadership & Performance Management

• Work with members of teacher cohort to set individual goals based on school wide goals and student achievement data;
  • Conduct One on Ones (O3s) as developmentally appropriate with each member of teacher cohort focused on instructional strategies, content, feedback based on observations and holding them accountable to goals; Conduct regular classroom observations of members of the teacher cohort.
  • Manage the performance of teachers to obtain outcomes for students through 03s, observation/feedback, content team meetings, professional development and real time coaching.
• Team Leadership: Build strong teams characterized by trust, investment in goals, and ownership
• Talent Development: Identify high potential talent and develop accordingly, manage performance with the support of the school leader, manage the growth and capacity building of next-ready leaders (GLCs, Department Chairs, Instructional Coaches and high-potential teachers)
• Leadership Development: Develop GLCs and next-ready teacher leaders intentionally in order to ensure strong pipelines.
• Instructional Culture Leadership: Conduct walk-throughs in grade levels specifically focused on active monitoring, use of real-time data and strategic re-teach in classrooms, engage in weekly O3s with the school leader focused on outcomes of teacher cohort; uphold school leader’s vision for school culture and hold teachers and students accountable to expectations (this includes coaching around culture).
• Collaborate as a member of the school leadership team and collaborate with regional leadership teammates to ensure all students meet school goals: Conduct conversations with the school leadership team focused on student achievement data for focus grade levels and ensure that there are clear next steps and strategies to drive student outcomes; attend skill builder PDs; provide input to school leader on vision and goals.
• Implement Academic Inputs that lead to results: Build quarterly scope and sequences per subject/grade that entails: daily lessons + objectives and resources, quarterly assessments, CRQs, and exit tickets. Create, curate/update respective assessment wikis aligned to the regional assessment calendar with assessments for each course per quarter. Analyze state assessment, quarterly assessments, CRQs, and exit ticket data to make informed academic decisions to be implemented in CTMs, weekly data meetings, and Looking At Student Work (LASW) meetings. Lead effective DKI (data and key initiatives) meetings determine actions that lead to outcomes for students

Assessment & Data

• Create common assessments, capstone projects, and performance tasks; analyze student performance data to refine instruction.
• Lead teachers in the creation and internalization of external assessments, certifications, and postsecondary opportunities in their academic fields.

Culture & Family Partnership

• Model and uphold KIPP Miami’s Heartbeat Principles in all interactions; create an inclusive, purposeful classroom culture with high expectations and joy.
• Partner with families through transparent progress reporting, empowering teachers to facilitate student‑led conferences, and proactive communication.

Professionalism

• Serve as an academic ambassador; build strong community and scholarly and industry partnerships that enhance the Business, Commercial & Digital Arts, and Technology academies.
• Share best practices and collaborate with faculty teams; participate actively in professional learning, coaching cycles, and school‑wide duties.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree; preferrably in a STEM-related field
• At least two (2) years of full‑time high school teaching experience in a STEM related field. (required).
• Experience coaching and managing others and/or leading a team to results
• Demonstrated ability to deliver rigorous instruction, integrate project‑based learning, and maintain strong student outcomes.
• Valid Florida Educator Certificate (or eligibility) in a 6-12 subject area and/or aligned to the magnet/academy theme. (Candidates pursuing reciprocity or temporary certification must be eligible under Florida statutes.)
• Demonstrated ability to partner with external organizations for student internships, mentorships, and authentic learning opportunities.
• Commitment to complete required CTE coursework and pass state CTE examinations relevant to assigned pathways within the first 24 months of employment (tuition/fees may be eligible for reimbursement per KIPP Miami policy).
• Strong proficiency with instructional technology and data‑driven decision‑making.
• Satisfactory background check and fingerprint clearance.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at computer or working at desk and significant fine finger dexterity.
• Often required to stand and sit.
• Walk frequently and climb stairs.

Additional Information

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $80,000-$118,000, **** commensurate with experience.
