Skilled Forklift Operators, to work in a safe fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
All personnel operate a Propane Powered or Electric Forklift / Clamping device.
Procedure:
- Before any personnel can operate a forklift/clamping device, a visual driving test must be performed by the interested individual operator and the Certified Forklift Instructor if the interested individual passes the operation forklift test, it is then the individual can operate a Forklift.
- The forklift operator will always inspect the lift before operating & cleaning at the beginning and end of shift. Documentation of this task is to be completed daily, by each forklift operator. At end of shift this document must be given to the shipping lead or to the production lead depending on where you are working.
- Conduct an inspection of the lift using the inspection sheets provided in the black bin located at dock door # 1. With special emphasis on the clamping device. (raise/lower, open/close, tilt forward/back)
- Once an employee has operated a propane / electric powered lift for 90 days, it is then that the employee will take the written test and receive certification.
- All forklift drivers are responsible for the lift they operate each day.
- Forklift drivers are also responsible for refueling the lift when the empty warning indicator is lit or if completely out of fuel. Prior to removal or installing of a propane tank; you must ensure the tank valve is completely closed by turning the knob clockwise fully. To prevent any propane from escaping from the tank. Gloves must be worn to prevent injury to the employee if the connecting point leaks while removing or tightening. Then the next step is performed by safely disconnecting or connecting the tank hose. Empty tanks are taken to the propane cage that is locked outside the Shipping/Receiving entrance. Empty tanks are placed into the rack with the valve pointed away from you to signify it is empty. Place the full tank on the lift and make sure the tank is secured onto the back and the valve is closed. Attach the hose to the tank. Once the hose is properly tightened onto the tank slowly open the valve. If the hose begins to leak; close the valve and report it to your supervisor.
- Electric forklifts must be plugged in at all breaks/lunches and end of shift.
- Beginning of shift forklifts are driven to dock door 1 area to blow out lifts, under seat, under lift, back of lift & cables. The check list must be filled out and put in the folder at that time.
- Forklifts must be always kept clean.
- You are not permitted to have any personal belongings stored on your forklift at any given time. The only items allowed on a forklift are pen/pencil, applicable paperwork, clipboard, scanner, iPad, or 2-way radio.
