Job Description
The ideal candidate will implement, manage and monitor the Company's safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet the necessary OSHA and other applicable work-site requirements.
This role's first task is to provide full-time coverage for an Under Ground project located in/around the Camp Pendleton area.
SAFETY SPECIALIST III JOB ELEMENTS:
INSPECTIONS / AUDITS
- Evaluate the workplace for hazards and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work conditions
- Identifies potential health hazards by examining the work environment, operations, and processes and obtaining full details of the nature of the work, materials, and equipment used
- Inspect and audit work practices at project sites, yards, offices, vehicles, and equipment, to ensure both internal and external regulatory compliance
- Travel to project sites for inspecting/auditing, training, or work purposes to continue educating construction team members on safety compliance and safe work procedures
- Conducts audits, interprets results, presents specific conclusions, and makes recommendations to immediately initiate corrective action when needed
- Auditing of Power / Gas Transmission & Distribution Crews
- Complete inspections and follow-up with reports of findings as may be required by the client or operations team
- Facilitate corrective measures where warranted; coaching the crews on solutions
TRAINING
- Coordinate and provide initial and renewal safety training to company employees which include employees in remote locations
- Assist in developing and conducting EHS training on worksites and in classroom environments covering various occupational health and safety topics
SAFETY PROGRAMS / PLANS
- Support creation and revision of new/existing safety programs by keeping abreast of current safety regulations
- Review, edit, support in the creation of, and approve site-specific safety plans
- Live and promote a culture of safety by leading by example (Felt Leadership)
INVESTIGATIONS
- Assist in investigating accidents/ incidents to help identify their contributing factors and root causes, determine how they might be prevented in the future, and communicate those findings to impacted team members
OTHER / MISCELLANEOUS
- CERTIFIED HEALTH & SAFETY PROFESSIONAL (CHSP) CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
- Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification preferred
- Participates in special projects as required
- Be a resource in the field for our clients and their contractors
- Representing the contractor or Owner in meetings as needed
- Travel to other locations within the West Region as required
