Position Overview
FMGI is seeking a hands-on Materials Engineer to support the development, testing, and field deployment of printable cementitious materials for concrete 3D printing. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys laboratory experimentation, structured testing, and translating material science into reliable field performance. The work is highly practical and directly tied to FMGI’s active 3DCP operations.
Key Responsibilities
\- Develop and prepare experimental cementitious formulations for lab and field evaluation.
\- Conduct mechanical and rheological testing to optimize strength, pumpability, printability, and durability.
- Perform statistical analysis and comparison of test results to guide formulation improvements.
\- Execute field and laboratory tests on fresh and hardened materials.
\- Maintain accurate documentation, test records, and reproducibility of results.
\- Support continuous improvement of QC procedures for 3D printable materials.
\- Assist FMGI’s 3D Concrete Printing team during active print operations.
\- Troubleshoot mix performance under varying environmental and site conditions.
\- Operate, calibrate, and maintain mixing equipment and material delivery systems.
\- Adhere to FMGI’s safety protocols and participate in site safety audits.
\- Ensure testing and material development comply with ASTM standards and project specifications.

2\. Robotics & Automation Engineer – Additive Construction (3D Concrete Printing)

Position Overview
FMGI is seeking a Robotics & Automation Engineer to design, develop, and deploy mechanical and automated systems that advance our construction robotics and 3D printing technologies. This role requires strong technical depth across mechanical, electrical, and software domains, along with the ability to take projects from concept through field implementation. While previous construction experience is not necessary, applicants must be comfortable working in active job-site environments and providing hands-on support for systems currently in use.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Development
\- Develop mechanical subsystems, end-effectors, and structural components for robotic and automated construction equipment.
• Perform engineering analyses to validate design performance under operational loads and environmental conditions.
• Generate detailed CAD models, manufacturing drawings, GD&T specifications, and BOMs for prototype and production builds.
• Design mechanisms and assemblies that interface with actuators, sensors, cable routing, pneumatics/hydraulics, and industrial control hardware.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of automation and mechatronic solutions, including basic control logic.
• Support continuous improvement of quality control procedures and testing workflows
Field Operations Support
- Assist FMGI’s 3D Concrete Printing team during active print operations.
- Troubleshoot deployed systems, diagnose mechanical or automation issues, and iterate designs based on real-world performance feedback.
- Support ongoing improvements to reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow FMGI’s safety protocols and participate in site safety audits.
- Ensure adherence to relevant standards, specifications, and internal procedures
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, automation, robotics, or related product development roles.
- Advanced proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
- Experience with 3D concrete printing (3DCP) is a strong plus.
- Experience with KUKA robotic systems is a plus.
- Working knowledge of programming (Python, C++, or similar).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related field; Master’s or PhD preferred.
- Ability to work in field environments and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
3\. Computational Design & Digital Fabrication Specialist –

Position Overview
This role sits at the intersection of computational design, robotics, and advanced digital fabrication. The Computational Design & Digital Fabrication Specialist develops and maintains end-to-end design-to-production workflows—bridging geometry, data, and machine behavior to enable next-generation manufacturing. The ideal candidate combines strong parametric design expertise with hands-on experience in robotic additive manufacturing, especially KUKA-based systems. Key Responsibilities
Design-to-Fabrication Pipelines
- Build, maintain, and optimize integrated design-to-fabrication pipelines (Rhino/Grasshopper → code → digital manufacturing).
- Develop custom Grasshopper tools, scripts, and plugins to automate geometry processing, toolpath generation, and fabrication logic.
- Create workflows that link data → geometry → fabrication, ensuring traceability and repeatability across the pipeline.
- Support robotic additive manufacturing workflows, with emphasis on KUKA robotic arms and associated toolpath strategies.
- Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to translate computational models into reliable, real-world production outputs.
Research & Development
- Develop data-driven or generative design tools for manufacturing applications.
- Explore new computational methods, materials, and fabrication strategies to expand capabilities.
- Document workflows, maintain version control, and contribute to internal knowledge systems.
Field Operations Support
- Assist FMGI’s 3D Concrete Printing team during active print operations.
Safety & Compliance

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Computational Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional experience in computational design, digital fabrication, or robotics-enabled making.
- Deep experience in Rhino + Grasshopper (expert user level).
- Strong grounding in parametric, procedural, and algorithmic design.
- Proven ability to build digital tools or workflows that connect data, geometry, and fabrication.
- Experience with 3D printing, digital fabrication, or robotic manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with KUKA robotics and robotic toolpath development.
