    Job Description

    The Product Developer for Footwear at 5.11 Tactical is responsible for managing the development process from concept through production hand-off, in accordance with end-user needs, corporate standards for quality, consistency & functionality, while meeting price, minimums, sourcing strategies, and exceeding customer expectations. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detailed, and action-orientated, with the ability to be flexible and manage a large workload in a fast-paced environment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    DEVELOPMENT

    • Participate in vendor and creative meetings regarding products and materials for each season and stage of development.

    • Monitor, track, and report on status of all requested photos, SMS, marketing, and confirmation samples.

    • Maintain seasonal sample tracking lists

    • Create and review Product Specification sheets for accuracy, completeness, quality, affordability, and compliance.

    • Understanding of HTS codes and customs duty for footwear

    • Coordinate with overseas offices and cross-functional teams to manage sample deliverables within the established calendar to ensure the timeliness of prototypes, SMS, and confirmation samples.

    • Enter product information (style numbers, names, and costing inputs) into appropriate spreadsheets and information systems.

    • Continually support innovation in materials, technologies, construction, and applications.

    • Maintain accurate record keeping for ISO compliance and reference.

    • Coordinate multiple project timelines and update the internal team regularly on the status of seasonal commercialization.

    • Collaborate with Sourcing and suppliers throughout the Development timeline

    • Support cross-functional teams with technical product information (i.e. ARK, Bid Specs, etc.).

    • Manage processes, data, and file requests

    • Domestic and overseas travel, as needed

    • Other duties as assigned

    FOOTWEAR FIT AND WEAR TESTING

    • Coordinate samples and surveys across both Professional and Wholesale footwear categories

    • Scheduling, communications, and recruiting of product testing partners

    • Execute and maintain Fit and Wear-Test protocols for both onsite & remote testing

    • Data management

    • Other duties as assigned

    CALENDAR

    • Follow calendar to ensure timely turnover of development dates

    • Support the maintenance of product development calendars

    • Work closely with Design, Product Management, and Sourcing to resolve delivery and material issues affecting samples and production.

    • Monitor calendar daily to promote the flow of development and resolve calendar variances with team and management.

    • Coordinate with Marketing to deliver photoshoot and catalog samples each season

    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    To perform the job successfully, an individual should have the following credentials:

    • Degree from an accredited University and/or combination of education and product development experience
    • Working knowledge of footwear with a solid understanding of the development process including, but not limited to, construction, manufacturing, components, materials, lasts, tooling, function, etc.
    • Working experience in executing all levels of the development process with a solid understanding of the development process in a manufacturing environment or factory
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a technical footwear product development role
    • Extensive computer experience including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
    • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
    • PDM/ PLM software preferred
