    THE ROLE

    We have a new opening for an attorney to join our Global Legal Team to advise and support 500 Startups Ecosystems legal matters across the world.

    In this role, youll help to design and execute ecosystem projects with governmental and corporate clients around the world. Youll be expected to have a strong legal foundation, ask the right questions of external counsels and commercial parties, develop a concrete understanding of our business and our clients needs, and drive legal solutioning which balances results and legal risks. Youll also support the legal needs of general commercial initiatives such as operations, marketing and press.

    We work at an incredible pace so you will need to be a self-starter with excellent EQ, strong time management skills, attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment and above all, flexibility. You should be comfortable confronting different legal issues day-to-day and working in a fast changing environment. This role is ideal for an experienced corporate commercial attorney who is looking for a dynamic in-house environment where strong legal acumen and negotiation skills are required.

    Reporting to our Associate General Counsel, youll work closely with internal and external counsels, Ecosystems, Marketing and commercial teams, and will help us scale and create new and efficient paradigms for the future of our global Ecosystems business.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Candidates should be willing to work on a wide variety of matters supporting our Ecosystems activities and ancillary legal matters, including:

    • Commercial Agreements - independent review and / or drafting of templated or third party commercial service agreements with key corporate and governmental clients. Review of inbound vendor agreements for general operations. Supporting commercial stakeholders on legal aspects of negotiations with clients and vendors.
    • Proposals - reviewing proposals, including submissions in response to governmental and intergovernmental RFPs, client presentations and other written proposal materials.
    • Regulatory - identifying investment and fund related regulatory issues from a US perspective and potential regulatory considerations in greenfield Ecosystems projects or service offerings. Understanding and applying common legal concepts associated with funds regulations in international projects to assess and advise on feasibility.
    • Project Implementation and Supervision - designing or advising on legal aspects of project implementation to guide commercial stakeholders. Monitoring ongoing legal compliance and proactively identifying action items.
    • Entity Formation and Maintenance - managing the incorporation and maintenance of legal entities and advising on appropriate contracting parties, mechanisms and risk management.
    • Knowledge and Records Management - organizing and tracking information, periodically auditing archives for accuracy and completeness, maintaining records and documents.
    • Education - educating commercial stakeholders on legal topics including regulatory aspects of marketing rules, general contracting and corporate governance through dedicated training sessions, on-the-job training or through authoring playbooks and guidance notes.
    • Marketing - reviewing marketing materials in support of new initiatives and campaigns.
    • Supporting ancillary legal matters and ad hoc projects of the Legal Team, as required.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 1 - 3 years of experience in a law firm with experience in supporting emerging or high growth companies in general corporate and commercial work.
    • Prior experience managing or supporting international / cross border commercial projects and/or working with investment funds will be an advantage.
    • Prior experience or familiarity with the United States Investment Advisers Act and oversight of exempt reporting advisers will be a significant advantage.
    • Undergraduate degree and law degree from a reputable university, bar admission.
    • Action oriented and able to independently handle multiple, competing tasks, with strong delivery focus. Proactive and always keen to move initiatives forward.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills; ability to communicate confidently, clearly and sensitively.
    • Comfortable with a changing environment and a variety of responsibilities, keen to excel in a lean team and able to work independently with minimal direction but high expectations.
    • Thrives in a fast-paced, often chaotic environment.
    • Passionate about tech and venture capital.
