Job Summary
We are seeking a Ground Person to join our team. In this role, you will support worksite operations through manual labor tasks. This may include keeping the worksite clean through the collection of trash, operating power tools, setting up temporary structures, or other necessary tasks. The ideal candidate is a hard worker with the ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
Duties: To assist construction line crews or network splicers by working on the ground, handing tools and potentially heavy materials to workers. To perform other similar work in connection with the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground utility lines. This position is the entry level of a multi-step progression and is expected to know all aspects of Ground Person duties for the Company.
Passes tools to line crew or network crew members by acting as a general helper on the ground. Handles cables, conduit and other materials as directed.
Assists line crew with setting screw anchors utilizing power tools and attaching down guys.
Clears undergrowth from right-of-way by using hand tools or saws. Piles debris to clear path. Performs general clean-up of job sites following completion of work.
Assists with loading/unloading reels of different sizes and types onto trucks and reel trailers. Also, will assist with positioning reel trailers at work sites for aerial construction.
Positions reels of coaxial/fiber cable beside trenches and lays heavy residential underground distribution (URD) cables in open trenches.
Notifies customers of service interruptions prior to line repairs
Will Flag and set up work zones prior to the start of jobs and during; in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and/or New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, in order to protect employees and the public along all roads public and/or private.
Position requires the ability to lift/move heavy objects up to 75 lbs.
Work/travel whenever required and in inclement weather or hazardous conditions, i.e., State of Emergencies, mandates, etc.
Know, understand and follow all company policies and guidelines.
Position requires participation in on-call rotation which could include working outside of normal working hours, weekends and holidays.
Required to work at various heights, utilizing ladders, including but not limited to 4’, 6’, etc. for internal building wiring, drop ceilings, attics, basements or other confined areas.
Performs other duties as assigned. Job duties are subject to change as directed by management.
Minimum Requirements: Highschool Diploma or GED equivalent. Basic hand tool knowledge and use. Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within company required standards.
Preferred but not required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge Utility/Electrical/Telecom knowledge or experience. Good mechanical and electrical aptitude and communication skills. Other combinations of education/experience will be considered.
