    Job Description

    Our client, an innovative startup in the 3d-printing, chemistry, and materials science space which has built software to use big data and machine learning to drastically accelerate the invention of new formulations and novel materials for a variety of uses, is seeking a Chemical Regulatory Software Engineer to join their team in a contract-to-hire capacity.  The stated contract period before eligibility for direct hire will be 3-6 months and will be pre-determined upon hiring.  This person will work directly with their Chief Architect to develop, deploy, and maintain new materials development regulatory and compliance management features into their software platform.  Secondary experience or education in chemistry or materials science as well as the Linux development environment are huge pluses, and experience with modern backend languages such as Node.js is an absolute must.  Recent Computer Science Bachelors or Masters Degree graduates with strong internships and chemistry/mat-sci experience will be considered for this role.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Act as a passionate representative of the client's software platform and brand
    • Drive the business planning for their SaaS product by designing and architecting the long-term technical and product strategy as related to regulatory requirements
    • Represent the client's software as the subject matter expert for global regulatory features
    • Passion for technology products, strong business acumen and judgement, ability to define visionary, ground-breaking products that have a broad business impact
    • Influence senior leaders for the entire organization and communicate the vision, strategy, goals, status, and customer impact of this role's primary focus area
    • Assist with recruitment and training for relevant localization requirements
    • Work extremely closely with Regulatory, Toxicological and other expert stakeholders to ensure compliance
    • Identify risks, define countermeasures, and take the lead in case of problems and conflicts
    • Become a domain expert in your product areas and conduct rigorous data analysis to help improve customer experiences and identify profitable growth opportunities
    • You will work closely with data scientists, business teams and engineering teams around the world, to make a huge, measurable impact to the platform's users, and build and innovate solutions that are simple, easy to maintain, and highly scalable
    • Act as a key player in the digital transformation of the chemical industry

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
    • 3-5 years experience working on Web application development
    • Familiarity with Node.js and JavaScript stacks
    • Expertise in any Relational or NoSQL databases
    • Comfortable with software development best practices: unit tests, code reviews, continuous integration, deployment, secure and clean code.
    • Experience in developing RESTful/GraphQL APIs and microservices-based applications
    • Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset with an eye for design and change (to support in the constant updates and enhancements of the platform)
    • Strong understanding of chemistry / materials science and basic understanding of regulatory requirements

    NICE-TO-HAVE:

    • Experience in Linux development environment.
    • Knowledge of server/client interactions (e.g. scalability, caching, Web application performance optimization, etc)
    • Deep experience with GHS standards, along with specific regional regulatory requirements such as TSCA, REACH, etc.
    • Strong familiarity with chemical regulatory documents such as Labelling, Safety Data Sheets, Hazardous shipping and transport (UN, IATA, DOT, IMDG, etc.)
    • Data science knowledge and experience (especially as it pertains to chemistry/material science)
    • Working knowledge and experience with eLN, LIMS, or Chemical Inventory Management software
    • Working proficiency in Mandarin or German
