  • Responsibilities

    Mission: Ensure high-quality program by supervising staff, theme and lesson planning, student engagement. Reports to Early Childhood Programs Director

    Classroom Supervision

    Ensure child safety. Supervise children at all times.

    Don’t chat with staff during program time

    Remain standing and involved with students during gross motor, learning park and all program times.

    Record Keeping

    Keep accurate daily attendance.

    Accidents or injuries must be reported.

    Meal count must be completed.

    Curriculum Planning/ Classroom Management

    Plan weekly activities that are aligned with the month’s theme. Plans should be child-directed and should vary daily to engage children.

    Attend and participate in all weekly planning meetings.

    Plan, prepare and organize materials ahead of time for a fun event.

    Submit weekly plans to the Director two weeks in advance on Monday.

    Classroom activities & displays should be full; creative; and enriching.

    Establish classroom rules that have the same goals as the policies of the school.

    Carry out rules consistently

    Assist enrichment guest teachers with student management

    Parent Relations

    Inform parents about their children on a weekly basis.

    Let the supervisor know of problems quickly.

    Participate in the annual staff conference

    Send an email each day (PreSchool) or week (UPK) to parents about class progress and events.

    Building Maintenance

    Supervise daily maintenance of a safe, clean, and healthy environment. This may include, but not limited to, spraying the tables and chairs with a bleach solution, sweeping floors, emptying garbage when necessary, etc.

    Leave the classroom as you found it.

    Physical Requirements -

    Must have the ability to:

    Lift up to 45 lbs.

    Repetitive bending, stretching and stooping

    Climb up and down stairs

    Have mobility, vision, and hearing required to ensure the safety and consistent supervision of children

    Speak clearly and correctly, so that children with other home languages learn the English language.

    Spend time sitting on the floor or child-sized furniture.

    Work outdoors in any variety of weather

    Light typing and word processing for parent communication

    Stand and walk for prolonged periods

    Work in an environment filled with children’s voices

    Qualifications

    60 college credits

    2 previous years of experience

    2nd language preferred

    Not available for parents of children in the program
