    82nd Street Academics seeks part time instructors for a unique opportunity on our team. Our program is supporting in person instruction for students in grades K-8th in small static groups. The goal of our program is to provide students the emotional support they need to complete independent studies with their remote teacher. Students are with our instructors in person while participating in virtual assignments on individual computers with their regular school teachers. 82nd Street Academics team members provide safe learning environments for students, emotional support when students are distracted, and engagement during breaks. Our holistic program supports students to succeed in this difficult school year. We keep learning fun and create a sense of community amongst our students as leading strategies for their success. Orientation for this position would begin in late March 2021, classroom experiences beginning in April 2021. While this role will complete in June, we have several summer and fall positions open. Successful applicants will be encouraged to join us for long term employment.

    The hours of this position are below. Please only apply to our open position if you are able to commit to this exact schedule. All hours take place in person, we are located in Jackson Heights, NY.

    Tuesday 7:45am – 6pm (two breaks are included)

    Wednesday 7:45am – 6pm (two breaks are included)

    Thursday 7:45am – 6pm (two breaks are included)Friday 7:45 - 6pm (two breaks are included)

    Rate of pay: $16 - $18 per hour depending on previous experience and related education.

    Major responsibilities include:

    · Support students to maintain positive engagement with their remote learning schedules.

    · Lead by example the safety practices we have set against COVID-19 to ensure program runs safely.

    · Create a welcoming, safe learning environment (emotionally and physically) for students daily.

    · Follow up on student absences to support student engagement with program.

    · Create engaging activities for students during breaks.

    · Support the implementation of lesson plans during afternoon enrichment periods.

    · Communicate with families and program stakeholders regularly. Obstacles are taken to all stakeholders to promote a supportive response for all students.

    · Provide excellent service to our students and stakeholders with a professional and caring demeanor.

    · Exude our Core Values in daily work. This is critical to success in our program.

    Education & Experience:

    · Study plan towards college graduation in Education or a related field of study.

    · At least one year of prior experience required in an elementary or middle school environment (non-negotiable, please consider another position at our school if you do not meet this requirement). A professional reference for this experience will be requested during the application process.

    · Bilingual fluency in English and one of our target languages is needed but not required. Our target languages are Spanish, Bengali, and Mandarin.

    · Commitment to the schedule listed above from April – June. Successful candidates will have continued work opportunities after June. We often maintain long term relationships with our team members.

    · Knowledge of best practices in working with children in an extracurricular setting

    · Strong communication abilities in one-on-one meetings and in group settings,

    · Takes personal accountability for the program outcomes, and takes initiative to implement positive change in the face of challenges

    · Able to develop a sense of community amongst students.
