  • Responsibilities

    82nd Street Academics seeks a part-time Program Assistant for a 120-student program for elementary school-aged youth. The program provides challenging homework help, lots of engagement with arts and exercise, and family engagement. The program assistant provides day-to-day support and program supervision during the director’s absence. The hours of this position are 1pm-6pm, Monday to Friday. There are bi-weekly meetings, professional development, and senior staff meetings that occur outside of these hours.

    Major Duties:

    · Lead program and coordinate with program stakeholders in absence of program manager (such as Department of Health, parents, school leadership, funders).

    · Maintains compliance with regulatory standards (DOH, DOE, DYCD).

    · Supports supervisor with administrative tasks, event planning, scheduling, parent communication

    · Provides supervision and structure during transitions and activities.

    · Supports supervisor with program observations and offers STEM activities or other enrichment as available.

    Job Requirements: Education and Experience: At least 30 College credits towards B.A. in Education or a related field

    At least two years of experience working with After School; leadership role preferred

    Commitment to the program through the end of June 2023 is a non-negotiable requirement

    Bilingual fluency in Spanish or Bengali or Mandarin, or Tibetan and English is strongly preferred

    Personal experience with societal barriers

    Valid CPR and First Aid certifications

    Must complete Health & Safety Training for After School programs.

    Use of computer and programs used by agency

    Demonstrated Abilities:

    · Knowledge of best practices in working with children in an extracurricular setting

    · Ability to establish and manage relationships with varied stakeholder with a focus on program recruitment

    · Strong communication abilities in one-on-one meetings, in group settings, and in written communications

    Takes personal accountability for the program outcomes, and takes initiative to implement positive change in the face of challenges

    Compensation is $20 per hour
