    Job Description

    Duda Farm Fresh Foods is a world leader in celery production, innovation and celery research. A subsidiary of A. Duda & Sons, a family owned company with a rich heritage in celery for 97 years. Duda Farm Fresh Foods has a research center devoted to celery research, a state of the art celery processing facility, a world leading breeding program with approximately 100 celery varieties to its credit including numerous preeminent developments and a team of scientists committed to maintaining its esteemed position. Duda is currently seeking a qualified candidate as Seed Operations Assistant to join this team. The Seed Operations Assistant will play a critical role in providing assistance to the day to day seed operations, including production, seed crop health maintenance, seed harvest, seed milling, seed warehousing, inventory, documentation and trace back maintenance and crew coordination. This position will report to the Seed Production Superintendent, and also work closely with breeders and the laboratory scientists to produce seed (commercial and research) to mill and finish the seed in accordance to appropriate SOP's by following guidance to develop the highest quality possible.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

    • Assist in the entirety of the seed operations program from seed production, harvest through seed milling and warehousing and inventory. This will include the follow through of both written and verbal instructions from planting through harvest and milling to inventory and will include coordination of crews to facilitate much of the activities.
    • Assist in all aspects of seed production including scouting and control protocols such as pest control applications for disease, insect, fertility and water. To include documentation and spray records while ensuring appropriate safety requirements and protocols are followed by employees in the crews. Assist in fertility sampling and testing and any experimental activities that are involved in production of the crops including fertility and hormonal treatments, spacing and training and any other technique experiments and tracking results through harvest and milling. Will be responsible for timely coordination of training and pruning activities in the seed crop production. This will include traveling and transport of equipment and supplies between locations and ensuring that the crews are equipped and start and finish their activities at various locations in a timely manner.
    • Capable of working as a member of a team sharing responsibilities, ideas, inputs and coordinating for a meaningful and thorough outcome.
    • Great temperament for working with growers, nurseries and various individuals outside of the company.
    • Capable of differentiating information or materials that are confidential and sharing information appropriately within and outside the Duda organization.
    • This position requires overtime work and weekends as needed, based on field production needs.
    • This position will need to be certified for forklift and qualified applicators certificate within 6 months of hire.
    • Experience/Knowledge in Microsoft Office.
    • Fluent in English, Spanish required.
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Area(s) of study; agricultural production, crop science, agronomy or related field,
    • Two plus years’ agricultural related experience.
    • Must be able to work under different weather conditions such as extremes of temperature, rain, and dusty conditions.
    • Must be able to travel when required.
    • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
    • Must be willing and able to wear personal protective gear when required and/or necessary.
    • Other duties as assigned.
