MEMBER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

Company: Apprentice & Journeymen Training Trust Fund (A&J), Van Nuys

Salary: $20.00 an hour

Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm (Monday-Friday)

Job Type: Full-time

Start Date: Immediately

Union: OPEIU Local Union 537 Position with Benefits

A&J is actively searching for a full-time personable yet professional member service representative to join our team. Responsibilities include general administrative duties, answering and problem solving incoming telephone callers; assisting members in signing up for classes online, filing, scanning, generating excel reports from proprietary data base and other office duties assigned. Employment includes a comprehensive health, welfare and retirement benefits package upon local union membership.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work under pressure in a fun, fast-paced environment
• Flexibility-ability to change priorities, direction and deliverables under pressure on a regular basis
• Communicate VERBALLY in an effective, consistent and accurate manner with ALL levels of management and internal team
• Consistently answer high call volume with precise note taking in proprietary database
• Excellent member-service skills 
• Bilingual in Spanish
• Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
• Experienced routing incoming and outgoing telephone calls through a multi-line phone and computer based phone system
• Demonstrated ability to greet visitors, maintain visitor logs, notify staff of visitor arrival and/or direct visitors to designated areas
• Motivated and willing to grow with the A&J Training Trust Fund
• OPEIU Local 537 Union Membership upon hire

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• College education preferred
• 1-3 year(s) experience as a receptionist, customer representative or in a related administrative position

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledge of the construction/building trades
• Knowledge of union environment

Company Description

Our complete name is the Apprentice and Journeymen Training Trust Fund of the Southern California Pipe Trades. We affectionately refer to ourselves as “The A&J.” Our nine training centers educate apprentices and journeymen in the plumbing, pipefitting, and welding industry within Southern California. While working, apprentices study to become a journeyperson in a 5-year program. Journey workers are encouraged to improve their skills, qualifications and certifications by taking advantage of continuing education opportunities. These opportunities promote leadership skills in communication and motivation, safety, efficiency and adaptability in their life and career.
