Job Description
The Music Journalist will cover all music-related content as it identifies with and relates to Man of the Hour’s target demographic.
The candidate must possess an eclectic taste in music with an ability to listen to and write about music from all genres.
The candidate must possess an ability to understand lyrics, composition, and deeper overall structures of the music scene.
The candidate must possess an ability to delve into the meaning of lyrics, the feel, emotion, and sound of the music they cover.
The candidate must possess an ability to discover new music artists as opposed to covering musical artists everyone knows about.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
DIGITAL
Write a bi-weekly column highlighting albums, singles, or music videos.
Write a monthly profile of an up-and-coming artist.
Write a monthly presentation highlighting a DJ and their mixes.
MAGAZINE
Write one music article and one profile of an up-and-coming artist for the bi-annual magazine.
Present a feature interview with an industry insider.
DURATION: 6 months
This is a virtual and unpaid internship. Yet, you will gain valuable writing experience.
OFFICIAL START DATE: ASAP
Qualifications
Preferably applicants should be a college undergraduate or graduate studying journalism or English (or a related field) and have prior writing/reporting experience with your school newspaper or another publication. All internships last for 6 months or longer (negotiable). Recent college graduates or dedicated writers/bloggers are also welcome to apply.
NOTE: Metro New York, Los Angeles & San Francisco residents strongly encouraged to apply, but location not required.
