  • Responsibilities

    ● Drive a passenger van daily over designated route in accordance with time schedules; operate a two- way radio to maintain communication with dispatcher’s office.

    ● Pick up and discharge disabled children and provide personal mobility assistance including the loading and unloading of students. Inspect passenger van prior to operation for safety purposes; clean windshield and headlights; clean interior and exterior of bus; service bus with fuel and oil; report needed mechanical repairs.

    ● Supervise student conduct on passenger van to assure a safe and positive environment; follow district policy regarding student control and contact with parents and the public; and document and report disputes and severe disciplinary problems.

    ● Maintain a variety of records including mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules.

    ● Drives a car or van on designated routes at scheduled times or for special events for the purpose of transporting special services students from their primary residence to a designated location.

    ● Secures seat belts, car seats, securement devices, and windows for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of students.

    ● Reports all accidents, completing documentation for the purpose of providing information for follow-up action and/or proper procedures.

    ● Pick-up and drop off students directly in front of their home and/or designated stops.

    ● Follow policies by establishing and maintaining daily record of assigned routes, van operation and lists of student passengers and tracking route times and miles.

    ● Conduct pre-trip inspections as required by current Virginia law and regulation, prior to operation of the van in the transportation of students; completes daily reports on the inspection, condition and operation of the van and records and reports any mechanical or other defects to the appropriate personnel.

    ● Perform minor first aid when needed.

    ● At the direction of the assigned supervisor, conducts annual evacuation drill for the purpose of being in compliance with the California Education Code and the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

    ● Review route changes, passenger changes, challenges, safety hazards or incidents with supervisor or designee as needed for recommended actions.

    ● Participates in meetings and trainings provided by transportation and/or special education department for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving skills/knowledge.

    ● Perform other related duties.
