DESCRIPTION

Provides direct patient care by assisting patients with changing clothing, changing linens, ambulation and transport.  Maintains a clean and orderly patient care environment.  Assists during patient examinations and procedures.  Obtains and records patient vital signs, performs EKG, obtains urine pregnancy test, obtains finger stick blood glucose, provides nutritional intake and reports results and observations to the Registered Nurse.  Provides basic nursing care to pre- and post-surgical patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. Maintains appropriate quantities of medical supplies, patient nutrition and linen.  Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations.

Required Skills

Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Two years experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories Patient Interviewing skills Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols                                                                                                                      Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for peri-operative nursing care according to accepted standards

Demonstrates ability to understand the unique needs of each age group of the patient population

Effective time management skills

Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situations. Knowledge of patient evaluation procedures Ability to perform routine vital signs, EKG, urine pregnancy test, finger stick blood glucose test Ability to maintain quality, safety, good body mechanics and/or infection control standards Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient Understands principles of aseptic technique and their implementation

Required Experience

 High school graduate or equivalent. Certified Nurse Aide. Current CPR. Demonstrates necessary clinical competency.
