  • Responsibilities

    The Primary Counselor is responsible for providing counseling services to individuals, families, and groups within the scope of certification. The Primary Counselor performs psychosocial screening and assessments. The Primary Counselor will demonstrate expertise in evidence-based treatment modalities for substance abuse treatment, case management, development of client support systems, design and implementation of a personalized treatment plan, and crisis interventions. The Primary Counselor will collaborate with the treatment team to plan and coordinate the client’s movement through the continuum of care.

     This position follows the client’s progress from a relapse prevention standpoint, beginning with admittance through discharge. During this time, the Primary Counselor maintains frequent and open communication with the Supervising Counselor regarding any issues or problems. 

    DUTIES:

    • Facilitation of groups and individual counseling sessions.
    • Conduct initial comprehensive assessment in order to fully understand the client and define those problems particular to the client.
    • Coordinate the development of Individualized Treatment Plans including identification of problems, objectives, and treatment goals with the client.
    • Supervise and monitor the completion of treatment plan assignments for the client.
    • Assist clients in developing a comprehensive Discharge Plan.
    • Provide liaison services between client and family.
    • Complete the daily required documentation with the appropriate notes that describe the progress towards the treatment objective. 
    • Document all services via EMR system.
    • Maintain frequent contact with clinical team regarding individuals' progress.
    • Responsible for attending and participating in mandatory weekly clinical and interdisciplinary staff meetings to discuss client care and all aspects of treatment.
    • Maintain and adhere to all Federal, State, and County regulations regarding patient confidentiality and code of conduct and ethics.
    • Maintain Certification in good standing including all continuing education requirements.
    • Responsible for all state and CARF documentation requirements relating to client records.
    • Adherence to ABC Recovery Center policies relating to professional boundaries.
    • Observe conflict of interest limitations and notify supervisor regarding any outside employment opportunities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Knowledge of CARF standards.

    ABILITIES:

    SALARY RANGE: $52,000 TO $76,960 BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE  

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    LEVEL I 

    • Must have a valid and current AOD certification from CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP.
    • Minimum of one-year professional experience in a behavioral health position. Substance Abuse preferred.

    LEVEL II  

    • Must have a valid and current AOD certification from CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP.
    • One (1) years’ counseling experience working with co-occurring disorders or a minimum of one (3) year experience as a counselor in a residential setting.
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in behavioral science or allied mental health profession.

      

    LEVEL III

    • Must have a valid and current AOD certification from CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP.
    • Three (3) years’ counseling experience working with co-occurring disorders or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a counselor in a residential setting.
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in behavioral science or allied mental health profession.

     

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • Certification as a AOD Counselor 
    • I year Behavioral Health Experience 
    • Driver's License 
    • CPR First Aid Certification

     

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

    • Bachelor's Degree in behavioral science or allied mental health profession from and accredited College or University 
    • 3 to 5 years working experience working with co-occurring disorders
