    EDUCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR JOB DESCRIPTION - $30.80/HR. 

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for the overall safety and security of children during school hours.

    • Provides direct supervision of children in care and maintains line-of-sight. 

    • Conducts an educational assessment of each child in order to determine their academic level and progress.

    • Assists in developing curricula and assessments, in basic academic areas (Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, Writing, Physical Education, and English as a Second Language (ESL)

    • Maintenance of the classrooms, administrative offices, and dorms such as: organization, light cleaning, refilling water dispenser as well as displaying artwork/bulletin boards provided by the EDU department.

    • Implements curriculum for each child according to the academic level and assist in any needs he/she may have.

    • Applies classroom management  policies

    • Provides educational services based on the individual academic development, literacy level, and linguistic ability of each child.

    • Assists with determination of special needs, accommodations/modifications, and communicate observations and assessments results to the education site lead, Assistant Program Director and the case management/clinician department.

    • Provides remedial education and after-school tutoring as needed

    • Maintains the child's educational case file and database in accordance with contract policies and procedures.

    • Provides administrative assistance to the Education department and dorm life as assigned by the supervisor.

    • Assists with development of  Individual Education/Service Plans

    • Responsible for adhering to all CHS, ORR, & other applicable regulations. 

    • Ensures all contract agency policies and procedures are adhered to.

    • Performs duties of line of sight care of children in other departments/responsibilities to meet contractual requirements on site.

    • Ensures accurate timesheet management (clock in and out).

    • Adheres to confidentiality, HIPAA, and non-disclosure agreement, related to children and shelter operations, both on and off work (i.e. media and social media postings).

    • Provides oversight during recreation, mealtime, leisure time, and play. 

    • Assists during transition and movement of children from one activity to the next and one physical location to another, if necessary.

    • Interacts with children in an appropriate manner, including playing games or during recreational time (Student Council, Talent Show and holiday activities, etc.).

    • Ensures quality care for all children and timely response to their needs.

    • Follows all mandatory child welfare reporting requirements.

    • Provides reports to manager regarding children's needs, and educational activities (attendance, class logs, lesson plans, PLC (Planning Learning Communities), daily reports, shift briefings, and management updates). 

    • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    • Performs duties in a safe manner.

    • Take initiative to make improvements and notify management of any identified concerns in the school area, as well as, on the administrative setting.

    • Ensures the safety and security of all children and the safe operating conditions within the area of responsibility.

    • Follows the corporate safety policy.

    • Participates and supports safety meetings, trainings, and goals.

    • Conduct and perform all duties within scope and in a professional manner.

    • Assists in the active implementation of company initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA VPP, ISO, Joint Commission, AAAHC, HIPAA, and other mandated regulations/standards.

    • Maintains a clean and orderly work/break areas.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bilingual in Spanish and English (Read, Write, Speak).

    • Bachelor's degree in education, Spanish or English, social work, psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science.

    • One year of experience providing education to children/adolescents (K-12) in an academic setting.

    • Must be able to multi-task, detail-oriented, organized and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Must be able to adapt to a changing work environment.

    • Available to work full time hours with multiple shifts, including holidays, weekends, and on call.

    • Clean criminal background check. 

    • Clean Child Abuse and Neglect or Child Protective Services Check (CA/N). 

    • Must be able to perform Emergency Behavioral Intervention (EBI) and effectively monitor and execute the shelter's Behavior Management Plan for youth in care

    • Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations (Emergency Task Order or Cooperative Agreement). 

    • Proficiency with computers, common office equipment, and MS Office™ products.

    • Able to maintain professional and calm demeanor, under stressful environments.

    • Must be able to perform CPR/first aid, if necessary.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Teacher's certification in the state of employment or eligibility letter valid for at least one year from the hired date

    • Two years of experience teaching in a residential facility.

    • Proficiency with SharePoint™.

    • 1 year of experience with children in child welfare or social service setting.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to ascend/descend stairs.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Able to perform physical activities, both indoor and outdoor, to include education, recreation, and leisure.
    • Able to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance of children and staff activities.
    • Able to withstand changing environmental conditions with weather (rain, lightning, extreme heat and winds).
    • Able to withstand and manipulate through construction areas, sports fields, etc.
    • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
    • Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors throughout the entire duration of their shift period, which lasts 8 hours or more on a typical shift.
    • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, or stoop for the entire duration of the shift, as necessary.
    • Must be prepared and physically able to respond with appropriate protocol in a variety of dynamic supervision situations with clients
    • In a sudden or emergency event, staff must be physically able to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, and assist evacuating an adolescent to safety.
