    ACZ Laboratories, Inc. (http://www.acz.com) is an accredited environmental testing laboratory located in the beautiful mountain town of Steamboat Springs, CO. We specialize in the analysis of trace level contaminants in water, soil, sediment, sludge, waste, biota, and tissue. ACZ operates out of a 31,000 square foot facility and meets the needs of a broad base of clientele throughout the United States and internationally.

    We are looking for a motivated individual to join our Trace Metals Analysis department. This department specializes in elemental analysis using modern, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers (ICP-MS) and cold vapor atomic fluorescence (CV-AFS). ACZ is a production laboratory with high sample throughput and a growing elemental analysis market sector. The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to work in a team environment.

    Candidates should have prior experience using ICP, ICP-MS, AA, or other elemental spectrometry techniques. Ability to use and understand a laboratory information management system (LIMS), proficiency with Excel, experience reviewing and validating data, and established instrument maintenance and repair skills are desired. The analyst may also be tasked with developing and implementing new operational methods as well as certifying instruments for use with client samples.

    ACZ has a temporary lease for an apartment in Steamboat Springs to assist with relocation. We also offer a 0% loan for ski passes.

    Expectations and Responsibilities include:

    • Learn, embrace, and adhere to ACZ’s mission, core values, and quality system.
    • Read and adhere to the department’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as well as other support documentation and methods.
    • Communicate effectively with team and Supervisor.
    • Independently assess and coordinate daily tasks.
    • Perform the preparation and analysis of client samples within the given turn around time TAT.
    • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain analytical instrumentation (contacting instrument manufacturers when needed).
    • Organize, evaluate, and review data obtained from analysis.
    • Maintain complete and accurate records of laboratory activities.
    • Monitor and maintain support equipment (balances, pipettes, etc.).
    • Perform qualification studies to certify instruments for the analysis of client samples.
    • Provide support to other analysts and departments if needed.
    • Ability to assess chemical and consumable availability and order in a timely fashion.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Previous experience with ICP or ICP-MS technology.
    • Desire and ability to develop excellent lab technique.
    • General proficiency with computerized systems.
    • Strong work ethic.
    • Desire and ability to work in a team environment.
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to work with corrosive and toxic chemicals (with proper training and PPE provided by ACZ).

    Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or any other related field from an accredited university.
    • Previous laboratory experience (1-3 years preferred).
